Tell me about your best holidays!

Posting for traffic.

I've never had a holiday abroad or been on a plane.
My dream is to one day take my family on a really wonderful holiday that they'll remember and make wonderful memories.

I'm one of those weirdos who loves people's holiday pictures and stories and I've even watched a few holiday vlogs etc, but I'm skeptical now with so many #ad trips if they're really that wonderful.

So if you would be kind enough to tell me about your best holidays I'd love that.

@toddlermom99 36?! You are amazing!
I have always adored different cultures and cuisines but never had the opportunity to go anywhere!
I adore thai food so I do want to go there one day, but short flights are definitely the way forward.
I loved watching Rick stein's travels, he went to some amazing places in Spain so I'd love to visit there.

I have spent my 20s and 30s caring for unwell family and as those family have now gone I think I should focus on a few year plan to get myself and family on some holidays to experience new places.

I do take them to places for little holidays but we've never been too far, so it's quite exciting to get planning!

@Crikeyalmighty
Thank you. I am having a very nice time in Benidorm. I think people are very snooty about it, the beaches are incredibly beautiful, Spanish parts, tapas, what's not to like?

Crikeyalmighty · 19/05/2023 18:30

@Oblomov23 oh I totally agree. I've had much crapper holidays at way more cost!! And it's fun !

I’m lucky enough to be reasonably well travelled and have enjoyed lots of places for all sorts of different reasons, but as you have never been abroad before, my advice would be to play it safe and book a package holiday in the Balearics.

Majorca is beautiful, lots of lovely beaches, a day strolling around Palma is day well spent, waterparks for kids, great food.
But the other things about the Balearics that make them an ideal destination for first time holidaymakers in my opinion is that English is widely spoken, it’s easy to find a pharmacy or a medical centre if you need one, buses and taxis are easy to navigate, supermarkets are everywhere - you can’t go wrong really.

For a first time abroad Greece or Spain would be the best bet. Short flights and fairly easy to navigate. I would book package with transfers included and pick a hotel near a small town you can walk to.

If you enjoy that, you can be more adventurous on your next holiday.

@Rachaelrachael that hotel looks amazing and just what we’ve been looking for but it looks like it’s about £800 a day even in off season in those hotels! is that right or can you book in advance/get deals etc??

It's worth shopping around but it is really expensive whoever you book with. It's cost us around £4000 for this week, 2 adults and 2 toddlers in a family room.
It is more than we would usually spend but it's honestly worth it. Don't think we will ever go back to any 'normal' all inclusive! The food is outstanding and I haven't fetched myself a single drink all week, its full waiter service even round the pool and beach!

SunAndSea37 · 20/05/2023 10:18

ah ok thanks @Rachaelrachael, that’s a bit more in the bracket I expected, sounds like it’s been worth it! Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip and keep those cocktails coming!
