To not want to organise a group thing?

Chelseaocean · 17/05/2023 23:52

I went out with two colleagues for a bottomless brunch and this caused many annoyed people because they were not invited.

It’s not even the people but I’m just not organising a large group activity where 14 of us go out, sort out a date, get deposits, someone might ask to change the date.

It was probably unreasonable if it was on work time and only part of your team...?

Rogue1001MNer · 18/05/2023 00:03

So many variables

Ponoka7 · 18/05/2023 00:06

It would have been better if you would have announced when and where and told people that they could tag along if they wanted to.

Work time?!
lf it was I'd like a job there

We would need more context

Why?

It wasn’t on works time. Would be quite surprised that someone could get away with having unlimited drinks for two hours and then go back to work.

We went out at the weekend.

Then it would of prevented you and this op, op.
Could you eg did a whatsapp group or facebook with the time and date then at least people had the option.

But again why?

Three of us went out in our own personal time as friends. Why do I have to extend the invitation to everyone just because I work with them?

Also I’ve never been to a bottomless brunch that didn’t need to get booked in advance and deposits paid.

This is not the right place. On mumsnet you must be invited to everything and if you aren't you need to cut that person out of your life as they are horrible. Imo of course it's fine to go out with two of your colleagues and not invite everyone else!

You shouldn't have to extend the invitation to everyone. That's weird. At work I'm really good friends with a few people, most get along with and a couple I can't stand. Why would I got out with everyone. Mumsnet is weird!!

booktokbear · 18/05/2023 00:57

PP's are weird. Of course you don't have to socialise with other work colleagues if you don't want to.

That's ridiculous.

OrderOfTheKookaburra · 18/05/2023 01:13

Seriously weird request. You are allowed to make close friendships in an office, as long as it doesn't impact what you do at the office or the other relationships negatively by acting unprofessional.

When was the last time any of the complainers invited you to something they did on the weekend?

In your OP you described them as colleagues, not friends. Which is why I thought it was arranged in work, between work colleagues, so a open invitation to other work colleagues would have been easy to do and appropriate. I never did works nights out, I didn't have time. I liked a drink and a flirt and I wasn't going to give anyone ammunition. If this was between genuine friends, who happen to work together, then it's fine to not extend the invites.
