To not have refunded the item

Sold a thing on marketplace, dimensions were stated on the listing. Buyer turned up, seen it and paid. 25 minutes later her mother and father are knocking on the door non stop demanding a refund, she made a "mistake" it's too small they want the money back. The man tries to force his way into my home. Partner pushes him out and shuts the door telling him where to go.
I'm petrified and have reported to to the police but aibu for not refunding? I'm terrified it's going to cause a whole lot of trouble.

Their fault for not checking the dimensions. I'd probably report it to the police on 101 if he tried to force his way in, then if he does come back and make a nuisance of himself there's a record.
You don't actually have to refund anyway, you're not a business.

silverspoonsz · 17/05/2023 20:20

i would've refunded and took the item back to save the hassle but they were unnecessarily aggressive

Mangotango39 · 17/05/2023 20:21

No I would have done the same - not sure what the item was but they could of damaged/broken it in that time.

CadburyDream · 17/05/2023 20:24

This is why I don't sell things heard of stuff like this before

Sauvblanctime · 17/05/2023 20:48

Yanbu.

but report to 101

Merangutan · 17/05/2023 21:21

Items that are collected in person with money paid after seeing the item are, quite literally, sold as seen. They saw it, paid and took it away. Them changing their mind again after it left your house is not your problem. They are the owners now, not you.

Equalitea · 18/05/2023 07:32

My gosh.

If a stranger tried to barge into my house then I would call the police, whatever the circumstances!

Equalitea · 18/05/2023 07:34

I agree, not 999, but rather 101..

dontlookbackyourenotgoingthatway · 18/05/2023 07:35

I think the issue of the refund became irrelevant as soon as the aggressive behaviour began.

I'd call 101.

You are totally in the right here

Refund the money and put an end to it. Life is too short for drama with aggressive idiots.

londonrach · 18/05/2023 07:41

I'd refund the money and resell. I had this with a wood Marble run. I just gave money back, resold it and blocked the person from buying again.

Her mother and father came round to demand a refund. Did you sell the item to a child, or perhaps unknowingly to a vulnerable person? Because that would change the response.

Wab · 18/05/2023 07:44

I've contacted the police last night and gave a statement. He was so aggressive, totally unwarranted. I've got a crime number if he shows up again.

So an adult woman, who I have mural connections with wearing a pharmacy uniform. Grown woman mid twenties. I would totally understand if it was a child or even an adult lacking capacity but this isn't the case.

As long as the dimensions listed were correct, tell them to get lost

musixa · 18/05/2023 07:48

You are completely in the right but I'm not sure it's worth the hassle of refusing the refund.
