Tickets for the Polar express have just been released it's nearly £200 for 2 adults and a child. Please tell me I'd be mental to pay this.

If you can easily afford it, it sounds like a nice thing to do

If you can’t, you would be mad.

BoldandBright · 16/05/2023 13:19

Ive looked at it, decided its too much money for us but it does sound a lovely experience.

ColdBanana · 16/05/2023 13:37

Absolutely not worth it. It’s an hour on a train and whilst the actors are fun, a lot was just pointing out pages in the book. The “LIGHTS!” at the turn around point were on the other side of the carriage (okay if you were same side I suppose) and barely visible through the steam. Younger children might buy into the magic I suppose.

Bluesclues1 · 16/05/2023 13:39

It’s shite. Don’t waste your money

Rlt8990 · 16/05/2023 14:35

Which one is this ? The Norfolk one was released a few weeks ago and cost us around £120 for 2 adults, 1 baby and a 4 year old ? This is for the 17th December on a Sunday. There are farms and garden centres in this area that cost similar for the same number of people !

oldwhyno · 16/05/2023 14:38

I just checked the website and 2 adults and 1 child came to £83.35 including booking fee. Even on the 22nd December the premium tickets for 3 were £152.35. Where are you getting £200 from?

Ferfecksackmammy · 16/05/2023 15:05

This is for Edinburgh, there are no premium tickets available. Tickets are £65.95 each. With booking fees it's just under £200.00

So, today we went to polar express in Edinburgh, almost £100 for myself and my daughter, all I can say is it was awful. Suitable for 5s and under. This was the last hurrah for believing in Santa and polar express annihilate that. The train was just a normal train decorated inside, we waited over 1hr 20mins to board the train at Waverley station, the journey itself went through the local lines and the hot chocolate was like a warm McDs milkshake.
We couldn't hear anything over the tannoy.

My best advice to anyone in Scotland thinking about travelling for this would be to AVOID. If you have tickets try and get your money back.

RichPetunia · 14/12/2023 21:07

I did the Polar Express experience in Edinburgh. It was OK, but not good enough for me to recommend to others. That said, the actors in our carriage were very good. BUT.. we were kept waiting before boarding, it was an ordinary train, the decorations were minimal, and the hot chocolate served in cardboard cups. It was a bit meh and a little lacklustre.
Too much money and not enough WOW factor. I've not recommended it to a neighbour who was interested in going.

Ploctopus · 14/12/2023 21:29

I couldn’t believe how much they were charging for what looked like so little.

As you’re near Edinburgh I highly recommend the Bo’ness and Kinneal steam railway santa train. Fraction of the price, lively steam train with decorations, visit and present from Santa, brass band at the station, mince pies and coffee. Great day out.

It has probably sold out this year but worth bookmarking for next year!

Ferfecksackmammy · 15/12/2023 10:58

I was lucky enough to get seants at Bo'ness it was lovely and a fraction of the price

Seriously its a parody of Polar express movie. Crap , absolutelly crap. Its not locomotive but regular awful train. Most parents were bored , looking through the windows. It was pathetic , for adult and 2 children paid 127 with admin fee which is disgusting 😠 absolutelly rip off. This should be steam train at least for God's sake. I dont recommend at all. I feel sorry for those Who were traveling long distance to edinburgh..Train was delayed about an hour. Awful experience 🤮

PurpleWisteria1 · 21/12/2023 23:03

What a shame. The one in kent is so lovely. Proper locomotive steam train. All decked up. Santa was so real looking it had me even believing in Santa. The hot choc, mug, lantern, cookies, bell, punched ticket and we were entertained for the whole 1hr20 mins. Kids absolutely loved it. And it was £40 each so nowhere near the £200

That’s a pity because your experience was the absolute opposite of my adult ds and his girlfriend at the weekend-they boys LOVED it!

We did this in 2021 and it was amazing. Even in the middle of Covid. My Dd was a bit old for it but my Dd at 7 absolutely loved it.

What a shame you think that. 4 of us went on The Polar Express on 19th December from Waverly. ( 4 adults) we had a great time, thoroughly enjoyed the build up before boarding, and the experience. Yes its a decorated train, however i think you need to jump right in to the spirit of it all. It's interactive and the staff in our carriage were fantastic. The passengers in our carriage also seemed to thorughly enjoy it. The hot chocolate of course can't be hot as it would scald small children. These things are always a bit expensive, it costs us more to go to The Play House. We are going back with children next time. X
