Yes, starts all day for me.
Never used to be that bad but even when I don't have work the next day I often feel it. Sunday is such a nothing kind of day and too much time to think and worry.

LouLou198 · 14/05/2023 21:42

I used to, until I went self employed!

Lincslady53 · 14/05/2023 21:44

Both me and my husband used to feel like this. So we sold our house, moved to a smaller house in a cheaper part of the country and used the equity to set up a business (shop) and become self employed. We had 30 years self employed, some good years, some just ok years and some years where we were close to going bust. But in those 30 years there was not one day where either of us dreaded going to work. I know its not fir everyone, but I would recommend self employment to anyone who feels as the OP and is capable.

Yes, it's like self sabotage. Starting to worry about Mondays work load, getting snappy and stressed, arguing with the family. Spoiling the whole day. For nothing. Repeat every week. Why do we do it to ourselves? By Monday evening you generally wonder why you were so bothered.

It's absolutely self sabotage - I've never thought of it that way!

I had most of last week off, had to work half a day out of four for a meeting I didn't want to miss.

I had the dread by LAST Monday night essentially about going back to work tomorrow. I don't want to feel like this any longer. I have a drs appointment tomorrow as my anxiety about work is literally ruining any enjoyment in life.

I love my job (social work) so don't currently have the Sunday blues. However, I've definitely suffered from it in the past in other jobs.

BlueAndGreen89 · 14/05/2023 22:02

I used to feel this way when I was a teacher. It would start about lunchtime on Sunday, this horrible sick feeling in the pit of my stomach, knowing I had a pile of work to do, and trying to psych myself up for Monday morning. Horrible.

PriamFarrl · 14/05/2023 22:05

I think it’s harder this week after having two bank holidays.

Are you a teacher? I used to feel that way when I was a teacher but not anymore.

I was, until I retired.

We used to go out to a pub quiz to beat the Sunday blues.

When you’ve got those spare evening hours you could use them profitably to get up to date, catch up etc.

But they are your hours - to do with as you please.

So 6 of us - 4 teachers and 2 others went out to hone our minds.

Yep! I feel like I’m in a constant state of dread about work, I don’t even enjoy the weekends anymore as I am acutely aware of Monday and the week ahead. I have never been so miserable but stuck in a total rut with work. Sadly, it seems like a lot of people feel the same 😔

YukoandHiro · 14/05/2023 22:16

I used to feel like this when I had a "proper job". I'm self employed now and rarely feel it. Having some autonomy in your work makes a huge difference.

"In the end, it was the Sunday afternoons he couldn't cope with, and that terrible listlessness which starts to set in at about 2:55, when you know that you've had all the baths you can usefully have that day, that however hard you stare at any given paragraph in the papers you will never actually read it, or use the revolutionary new pruning technique it describes, and that as you stare at the clock the hands will move relentlessly on to four o'clock, and you will enter the long dark teatime of the soul."

QueefQueen80s · 14/05/2023 22:18

I had it through school, college and most of my jobs even though once I got there I was fine.
Never got it at uni or my current job.

Bk1000 · 14/05/2023 22:21

I have always had this since I was in primary school, just wish the weekend could last for ever. In my current situation it’s not my not my job so much as the stress of juggling work, getting kids to school, childcare, afterschool activities, meals, cleaning etc etc etc. It’s so overwhelming and I spend the whole week running late for everything and extremely stressed. I can’t wait for the weekends just to have a breather from it all!

It's been a long time since I read Dirk Gently. Must read it again... on a Sunday afternoon perhaps.

sendbackaletterfromamerica · 15/05/2023 07:03

Are there are ways you could change things round so Mondays are less stressful? Move some work things to a Tuesday?

smearfears · 15/05/2023 07:05

Yep. My job is very emotionally draining at times. It's fine when I'm there but it's the Sunday blues that drag me down a bit. Then the days I'm not at work (I'm part time) I'm too shattered to do anything. I didn't feel this in my old job but then again I didn't get the "good feels" like I do now on a good day in my old job either so I guess it's better for me in the long run

coolcahuna · 15/05/2023 12:19

Yep I get this every Sunday too. One thing that helps for me is to do something on Sunday evening like a trip to the cinema which helps ward it off!

My worst day was Easter Monday, was terrible from about 9am! I didn't used to feel like this, not sure if it's the job (which I generally enjoy but is very full on).
