To ask what you do on Sundays?

I am really starting to dislike them.
I'm single with no kids and not much in the way of family. The few friends I have are all busy with family stuff.
Aibu to ask what you do on Sundays? They are always sort of tainted by the thought of Mondays at work too....

I am lucky enough to have a fabulous DD and a nice DH whose company I still enjoy, so many Sundays are happily spent with one or both of them. However, a number are on my own as DH fairly frequently works weekends (or occasionally travels to see friends and family) and DD is with her dad EOW. When that happens I am torn between enjoying the solitude and sometimes feeling a bit lonely too.....

Things I do when on my own include:

-Reading (I am an avid reader of pretty much any kind of fiction. I borrow books from friends and family and also buy from charity shops.)

-Baking (bread, cakes, quiche, pies, anything really) or more complex cooking I don't have time for in the week.

  • shopping for food/garden stuff/toiletries etc. (Not clothes shopping as I pretty much only buy second hand, and most charity shops round here are closed on Sunday).

-nice walk with the dog in the park, and maybe go for a coffee at the local dog friendly pub with him.

  • working on my allotment. (This is a massive God-send in terms of filling up extra time, keeping busy etc)
  • sometimes sorting out parts of the house - I might have a clear out of my wardrobe or the kitchen cupboards, something like that.

-watching snooker if it is on.

-catching up with friends on social media.

God, it all sounds boring when I write it down but actually I kinda like the boredom! I find this sort of stuff very soothing. I am glad not to be on my own every weekend tho, and do feel for those of you who are.

gymwars · 14/05/2023 19:29

Usually go for a walk and lunch out. If you enjoy walking why not join the meet up app and see if there's anything on Sundays? Or Ramblers/local walking group.

newjobnewstartihope · 14/05/2023 19:33

Cleaning chores sometimes swimming sometimes park sometimes a walk in the forest
Today has been a rare day as I've stayed in all day and I've actually enjoyed it

VioletCharlotte · 14/05/2023 19:34

I'm single with adult DC. I do have a dog though! I love my weekends, after years of ferrying the DC around when they were young, it's really nice to have time to myself after a busy week at work. I normally go to the gym or to yoga, get a coffee, sometimes pop go town. Today I went to the garden centre to buy plants, then spent the afternoon in the garden. Ive walked the dog and caught up on washing and housework. Nothing very exciting, but I'm very happy in my own company.

Lcb123 · 14/05/2023 19:35

We had a lie in, went to an exhibition and then had lunch at a vineyard.

Whatkindofuckeryisthis · 14/05/2023 19:35

Married with 4.5 yo-

Our days usually revolve around our son - as you’re single, make the most of it!

Lindjam · 14/05/2023 19:37

Bit of housework, lots of chilling on sofa watching tv.

Long dog walk. More chilling reading.

Now about to dye my hair and then have an early night by 9pm ready for Monday.

You say your job is a problem though? I love mine…

Kaaplumff · 14/05/2023 19:38

I had a coffee with my friend in the morning, then went to the garden centre for a mooch around bought some flowers. Had a short walk with my ancient dog. Got home about 1ish and then spent all afternoon on the sofa!

I think if you’re not totally averse to organised religion than church on Sunday can give a bit of structure and community connection, but I get it’s not for everyone. If I was close enough to a big city I’d find a traditional cathedral service with great choral music (but I’m not).

I’m only my own every other weekend when kids are not here and it’s relatively new so still something of a novelty but can see the over due catch ups with old friends are tailing off and I don’t have many plans for the next few alone weekends which does sort of fill me with a slight sense of panic as I can get a bit melancholy by myself.

I think if I had every Sunday to myself (which I probably will once the Dc have left home) I’d try to do a combination of exercise, chores in preparation for the week, and if I didn’t have many friends that were free on Sundays I probably would try to have a regular volunteering thing like visiting someone in a care home (many families visit on Sundays and there are lots of people who don’t get any visitors 😔 ).

Sunday is normally our day of rest, long lie, leisurely brunch , takeaway for dinner and not much in uh today I’ve done the garden in between.

Mon- Sat is usually hectic so need a day to recharge the batteries

NuffSaidSam · 14/05/2023 19:43

The rest of the week is really busy so Sunday is a mix of chilling and boring housey jobs like laundry/shopping/tidying up etc.

Berlinlover · 14/05/2023 19:46

I work three out of every four Sundays. On my Sunday off I usually go to the nearest city and do some clothes/window shopping.

LadyLapsang · 14/05/2023 19:53

Laundry on
Shower
Two pots of coffee and The Times and Laura Kuenssberg
Advance screening of new film
Bought some food for lunch
Home
Made a late lunch
Read my book in the garden for an hour
Walk in the woods with DH
Just about to get washing in and cook dinner
Dinner, wine, possibly a concert recording or watch something on TV
Usually go out, go to a gallery, cinema, lunch out, meet friends or family, go away for the weekend, a bit of gardening, National Trust visit, museums, shopping - always something to do.

RuthW · 14/05/2023 19:54

Sleep, rest and housework. I have a full on job plus voluntary work during the week.

bjjgirl · 14/05/2023 19:55

Up at 7, costa at 8, gym at 9, teach a sport at 10-11, come home walk dogs and make a roast with help from the teens.

While roast is cooking we all chill in our rooms then eat tea as a family then back to our rooms (where dp and i watch films and have a cdluddle)

This reads like one of those A Life in the Day of articles in Sunday supplements ...

I'm married with young DC, but your OP really made me remember the days when I lived on my own in a tiny 1 bed flat. Family lived hours away and like you say, most friends were busy at weekends. I vividly remember one August Bank Holiday weekend when i didn't see a single soul between finishing work on the Friday and going back in on the Tuesday.

I'm not very good at filling my time when I have nothing to do. I tend to end up binge watching something or napping. On the occasions I did make myself move then I used to go to the bakery and treat myself to something, then go and buy a new book or DVD to watch in the afternoon. If it was a sunny day then I sometimes used to pack a picnic and drive to my local national trust place then find a quiet spot away from the crowds and plonk in the sun with my book and picnic for 1

Topiography · 14/05/2023 20:25

Go for a run in the morning after a lie in, approx 9.30, then church at 11 and stay for a cup of tea and chat until 12. Have done all my ironing this afternoon and some homework for an evening course.

FrownedUpon · 14/05/2023 20:28

We usually go out for the day, either to a NT or EH place, a long walk or trip to the seaside. Often have lunch & drinks out. Then home for dinner & just relax in front of the TV in the evening.

lakesummer · 14/05/2023 20:30

I work, kids do homework and DH does some prep for week ahead. A pretty mundane day in our house.

romany4 · 14/05/2023 20:33

I look after my 18 month old grandson every Sunday so that his parents can work.
Gets dropped off around 10 am and I look after him till evening when they get home and I drop him back.
Evenings DH and I just eat together and then watch tv. We're usually knackered by the time the wee man goes home!

Purplecatshopaholic · 14/05/2023 20:35

I love Sundays. A day to do as little as possible in my book. Today I walked the dog a couple of times. Popped into town to collect something. Pottered around the house. Chilled with my iPad while DP did some work. Had a take away for tea. Lovely.

NoWordForFluffy · 14/05/2023 20:37

Sunday used to be my allotment day, but I seem to have swapped that to Saturday recently. Not sure why!

Today I've washed our bedding and hung it on the line (after chivvying DH to put the new washing line up that I bought).

Watered the plants in the greenhouse.

Cleaned the downstairs vinyl flooring with my new steamer.

Cleaned the kitchen / utility / dining room / hall, stairs and landing.

Cooked dinner.

Ironed the school uniform.

Walked the dog.

UsingChangeofName · 14/05/2023 20:37

Go to Church, and go to watch sport

Justalittlebitduckling · 14/05/2023 20:38

Church and see family.
