I am sat waiting for my endometriosis surgery. Laparoscopy they’re working on my bowel too. Told me there’s a chance of a stoma bag. Can everyone please let me know their positive surgery stories and tell me it’s all going to be ok.

I don't have any stories I'm afraid, but wanted to wish you good luck and give you a hand hold.

Rainbowqueeen · 14/05/2023 09:42

No stories here either but also handholding.

Wishing you all the best

Handhold.
My only real surgery as an adult has been wisdom teeth out under GA and I was worried but I told the anaesthetist and she gave me something to relax- I just remember telling her she was good and I was coming again. Haha. It was like just being a little bit drunk - that relaxed feeling you get (I could do with some just a couple times per year) haha.

They have to tell you all the risks, no matter how small, but whatever happens you will deal with it and it will be ok.

My Mum is 87 and has a stomach bag. She had bowel cancer 10 years ago. She copes brilliantly with it, better than I probably would! There is so much help and support out there- stoma nurses will visit if you need them to.

Thank you everyone. All went well. X

I had an ileostomy formed last year due to ulcerative colitis. It saved my life and it’s been the best year ever.
yes it takes time to adjust but you’ll get there if it does happen.

My sister has a stoma bag and leads a normal life.

I had my permanent ileostomy formed in 2019...it's changed my life for the better. Still have the very rare shitccident but when that happens it usually could have been avoided ( bag emptying laziness, clothing too restrictive over my stoma ). Finding the bag that works best for you is SO important, I requested samples from numerous companies and settled on Salts Confidence Be. It's a major life change - be kind to yourself 🥰
