To be annoyed with school?

On Friday my 5 year old teacher phoned me in work to inform he had been messing around and not listening in PE. He had supply teachers rather than his usual. I spoke to him and he admitted it and we spoke about respect. However he also told me twice a child strangled him and punched him in the head whilst the supply teacher looked on. Aibu to be annoyed I'm getting a phone call but wasn't informed of this incident?

He is 5. 5 year olds aren’t always reliable in their understanding of the teacher can see. Ring his teacher and discuss it with them.

How weird the school don’t just deal with the behaviour in school and keep it to themselves. Children mess about all the time in school, that’s for the school to deal with.

The strangling thing; yes that’s should be brought up by you with the school

He told me twice the teacher intervened

To be honest, I would suspect that part of the silliness going on in PE was a play fight and he is minimising his behaviour by putting it on the other child.

So how do you know the strangler child’s parent didn’t also get a phone call?

supply teacher doesn’t sound effective at controlling the class.

Kids do that kind of shit constantly. You can't expect teachers to tell you everything that happens.

JenniferBarkley · 14/05/2023 08:12

Play fighting sounds most logical here.

Kids that age can be very literal in their story telling. DD fell at her after school club a few months ago, tripped while playing chasing and got a nasty bump on the head. Well, that was the adult take on it. Hers was "James was trying to kill us", because that was the game they were playing.

Sirzy · 14/05/2023 08:15

I agree with others it sounds like play fighting type behaviour for you to have been called too. The fact he only mentioned it to you as a result of being in trouble for his own behaviour suggests he was using it as a “but he did…” type argument.

worth calmly clarifying with school on Monday

They were play fighting and the other child’s parents probably also got a phone call
