Is the Great Barrier Reef near there? Clearly Aus didn't give it to the world, but would we know about it if there wasn't land near-by from which to base any travels?

belgo · 18/02/2008 19:27

some of the most poisoness animals in ther world eg. box jelly fish(not culture I know, but I find it interesting)

belgo · 18/02/2008 19:28

yes, I was also thinking about the Great Barrier Reef, I've scube dived it and it's incredible

southeastastra · 18/02/2008 19:29

there was a show about the toad that's wiping out alot of the native species belgo, it was very sad.

belgo · 18/02/2008 19:29

belgo · 18/02/2008 19:30

yes, loads of native australian species have been wiped out by colonisation

herladyship · 18/02/2008 19:31

I don't think Australia promotes its more highbrow culture enough tbh, we see too much on the barbeque blokey side of things

belgo · 18/02/2008 19:32

southeastastra · 18/02/2008 19:33

southeastastra · 18/02/2008 19:36

blimey i'd kill it if i were her. on the programme they squeezed one and the amount of poison that came out of it was horrific. one lady just whacks them with a hammer. (sorry if tmi) but it was very interesting.

Mercy · 18/02/2008 19:40

Why is 'crikey' an Australian expression?

suedonim · 18/02/2008 20:36

Crumbs, I can't believe no one has put 'The Ashes'.

tilbatilba · 18/02/2008 20:41

The aboriginal culture is incredibly rich. facinating , ancient and unique. If you are meaning white culture.... for a land settled 200 years ago by English cast offs and then migrants and refugees from almost everywhere I think Australia has a wonderful vibrant culture that is like no where else. Out of a small population I think we have given the world some great writers, historians, doctors, chefs, musicians, artists and humanitarians.
Interested in the point of your question!
