to ask about automatic washing machines

As title really… my faithful Hoover auto, purchased well over twenty years ago, has finally died… funeral pending 😪

So I’m not up to date at all on which machine I should buy next.

I expect all the new ones are digital, and technical and scary.

I’m in my very late sixties, but hopefully with an open mind.

Theres only me and my man at home, so no huge demands on the weekly wash.

If anyone could give me advice on what to look for, that’d be so helpful.

I’ve also no idea of what a reasonable cost would be, and which machine is easiest to obtain parts.

I’ve heard good things about Miele, but the cost seems outrageous?
I wouldn’t mind a high cost, it it buys me reliability and longevity.

I like the idea of Bosch, Samsung too.

Look forward to seeing responses, and ask me anything if I’ve not included enough info.
Tia….

Get a 1600 spin. My samsung eco bubble is only 1400 and I miss my old 1600 spin. My Samsung is at least ten years old and no issues.

do check out programme times. They’re all cold fill now and I’ve seen no end of stuff about people buying machines and finding out the quickest wash is three hours plus. I made sure mine had shorter programmes as well as the three hour one.

I don't know if anybody else has mentioned them but I have a Smeg washer dryer which is really good - straightforward to use, quiet even on 1600 spin and a countdown on the screen so you know how long it has left 😀

It also has sensible washing programmes that I actually use, unlike every other machine I've had where I just bunged everything in on 40 and forgot about it.

I'm very happy with my 9 year old Beko. When it dies, I will replace it with a Beko. A lot of them come with 10 year (parts) warranties now. It's 9kg, but has settings for smaller loads.

To the person who said they can't see the point of a 3hr wash - the longer washes are more economical - they save a fair amount of money (using less water and electricity). I don't see the point of a short wash (except in an emergency/something specific needed quickly) - it's not like you need to sit and look at it for 3hrs, you just put it on and get on with your day/evening/night.
