Slept for 18 hours yesterday because I couldn’t wake up - GP or A&E?

Just looking for some advice because I know the NHS is massively overstretched at the moment and I don’t want to waste resources if this is just a GP thing.

Basically for the past few months I have been experiencing lots of headaches and some dizziness and oversleeping. It hasn’t been consistent so I’ve never really got it checked out because it’s never been enough to cause huge issues.

However this week, every day I have been struggling to wake up and until at least 10am I have been in and out of sleep feeling completely without control, no matter how hard I’ve been trying to stay awake I fall straight back to sleep within minutes and have to force myself to stay awake.

In the middle of this week I walked upstairs and my ears went fuzzy and my head started spinning, it was really scary because for about 3 minutes my ears went in waves and I could barely hear, like I was under water.

I’ve tried earlier nights but nothing has been helping. I have my own business and it’s affecting my work, being unable to concentrate and missing meetings.

Yesterday I slept for 18 hours throughout the day, it was impossible to wake up I was so drowsy, at one point I thought I was awake and I was talking to my partner about ingredients (?) but I was still asleep and apparently all he could hear was muffles, and it got to a point where my head started waving and it felt like I was falling every time I shut my eyes, this lasted for about 10 minutes.

I awoke at 8pm and went back to sleep at 1am, and this morning couldn’t wake up until 11am and had to literally force myself into a cold shower to wake up.

I managed to get up and ready, have come downstairs and I am so dizzy I feel like I’m going to pass out (I haven’t), and my head feels like there is pressure around my temples.

I’ve not taken any new medication and the medication I do take I have been taking the same for about 8 years now, no changes that I can think of in diet, I do feel dehydrated from all the sleep though.

I’m unsure whether to call 111 because I’m feeling shaky and dizzy but not sure if it would be better to wait it out until Monday for an emergency GP appointment.

But not being able to wake up is scaring me and frustrating me, I don’t want to be sleeping the days away, I physically just cannot wake up no matter how hard I try.

Please if anyone can give me some advice or has experienced this before I would really appreciate it

I’ve reported this to MN who will hopefully comment and clear up any confusion.

@GiveupHQ you should be ashamed of yourself for going on such a personal vendetta when you hadn’t even bothered to report first (if you had, they’d have told you it’s not me and we’re not the same poster). Your posts are personal attacks and to be accused of making stuff up is unbelievably hurtful for me and I’m sure for this OP too. I really hope your power trip was worth making me feel like complete shit

Hopefully MN will comment soon to clear this up.

im starting to think you’re the troll here. I’ve told you I’ve reported it to MN for them to confirm we are NOT the same poster. Not sure what that confirms other than it’s not me. Of course you could have done that too, but then you wouldn’t get to be hurtful or accuse me of things. It’s obvious you’re just a troll trying to be hurtful and I can’t believe I was daft enough to fall for it!

Why are you ignoring everything I’ve said?

why did you choose to be so hurtful and go on a personal attack to me, instead of reporting correctly which would have cleared it up for you straight away?

Like I said. You’re obviously a troll. Anyone else at this point would have apologised for being so nasty after realising they were wrong. It’s called not being a coward and realising you were wrong.

but sure, bow out.

All you're doing with your constant comments is keeping this thread active. I have no idea if both OP's are the same person, but I hope both get some answers and some relief from their symptoms.

Honestly, I promise we’re not the same poster. I’ve reported to MNHQ for them to comment and confirm it but they haven’t done it yet. Thank you for being nice though unlike some other people! x

ScribblingPixie · 28/05/2023 12:33

That sounds much better, OP, if your GP is on board and helping you get to the bottom of this. All the best to you!

zusje · 28/05/2023 16:24

I'm wondering if this is something sinus or middle/inner ear related (dizzyness, heavy head, constantly being sleepy/exhausted). Might be worth asking dr to check your ears (even though I suspect that it would have been visible on ct scan if there was fluid in your sinuses).

toomanyhobbies · 28/05/2023 16:57

@Headproblems @trippyhead i have intercrainal high pressure and the symptoms are very similar with regards to the headaches, pressure. I do/have had periods of feeling very tired but not as bad as you describe could be worth looking in to

Chickapee · 28/05/2023 17:38

How are you OP?

Caroparo52 · 28/05/2023 19:45

This . Definitely

Issania87 · 29/05/2023 08:53

Hope you are getting some answers OP x

ThePix · 05/06/2023 08:13

BeverlyHa · 05/06/2023 09:00

a blood cancer?

BeverlyHa · 05/06/2023 09:01

whatever it is, sounds a very agressive illness. Is there any way you can do a private blood test? I have someone i work with who can arrange things for me to be done within a week and I am not even rich lol, but do exclusively private healthcare these days

GlumShoe · 05/06/2023 12:53

Any news, op? Hope you're feeling better 💐

Mojo777 · 05/06/2023 17:15

Hello everyone, I am so sorry that I have not posted on this thread but I got very upset by some of the comments and focused on my health. Very sad that I was accused of health anxiety and of being another poster (which I was not and unfortunate for the other poster too who received nastiness on here).

i wanted to give an update - my blood tests resulted in me being diagnosed with diabetes. Going undiagnosed for so long it makes sense but I am upset about it. However I am looking after myself and having frequent blood tests every 3 months and am happy to be receiving help.

thank you all for your kindness (to those who gave it), a fingers up to those who diagnosed me with health anxiety, and a huge thank you to those who checked in on me.

i really appreciate it!

Glad you got a diagnosis and are looking after yourself OP. How are you feeling now, physically?

Vanillazebra · 26/06/2023 21:15

Get well soon, are you Type 1 or 2?

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 26/06/2023 21:15

Glad you got a diagnosis. Hope you’re starting to feel better and managing your diabetes ok.

try not to let the nastiness get to you. Some vile posters on this site unfortunately. They don’t call it the best of vipers for nothing. Rise above it and don’t let them worry you.
