Do I pay for a plumber even though the company is at fault?

I had a new tap fitted in the kitchen a couple of weeks ago. I've since noticed damage on it, it's matt black and there are chips out of the black. I have been in touch with the company (big high street name) who have said they will replace it but only if I bring the damaged one back.
Tricky, obviously, as I need a functioning kitchen tap but also will need a plumber to remove this one and then install the new one- which I would have to pay for.
I can't imagine it will be a huge expense but AIBU to not want to do this? Or should I just absorb the cost and get on with it?

Are you sure you can't take it out yourself? And are you sure it isn't the company that installed it that didn't cause the damage? If it is them then they should be putting the new one in.

It’s pretty easy to remove a tap. I bet youtube has tutorials.

I am unclear who has damaged the tap. Did the company you buy it from install it? Is so then they should be removing and installing. If they didn’t install it then they’re being very gracious offering a refund on return as installation could have damaged it.

I’d get the plumber booked in and then take the tap back. Or manage for a few days without the tap if you have another tap downstairs.

This is just to be expected. I'm surprised the company are even happy to refund it when there is every likelihood it was damaged during fitting. They aren't going to cover the cost of a plumber to remove the tap so either get one in yourself or learn how to do it.

@globalwondering Turn water off to just that tap. Follow instructions or videos to remove tap. Get new tap. Reverse process.

If this is too difficult, you could try sending photos and ask for discount.

I have learned the hard way to inspect everything thoroughly as soon as it is received. I now even take photos of damaged boxes before I even open them.

Your title mentions a company at fault, which company? The fitters?

I would have thought any damage needed to be reported immediately, not weeks later so I'm surprised the retailer is agreeing to exchange when there's no proof of it being damaged when they sold it.
