Do you enjoy going to work?

I’ve just started my new job and I literally prayed for this job for such a long time after so many rejections. It’s my first “big girl” job at the age of 27. I qualified a few years ago and finally landed a role.

Ive had part time jobs mainly since I’ve had my kids from 2016 and I have managed ok with them as it wasn't many hours a week.

Now my life just seems miserable, work all day then spend 2 hours on the evening with my kids.

I see so many people on the way to work everyday and just think to myself how do they do it. Is something wrong with me? I have to force myself out of bed everyday and give myself a pep talk.

Im not lazy it just seems like the majority of my life now is being taken up by work.

Does everyone else feel the same way? Or do you generally enjoy getting up and going to work.

It fluctuates

Some days are better than others. Some weeks/ months are better than others.

I had a big team change 18 months ago and before that I hated it and now it's soooo much more enjoyable

Those of you who have posted saying that you love your job- would you mind sharing what job you do?

Work in the finance side of Revenue and Benefits.

UsingChangeofName · 10/05/2023 23:27

Like most people I should imagine - there's good and bad in most jobs.
I enjoy my job overall, but I've never been a fan of mornings, so I don't leap out of bed with enthusiasm, but then I don't do that at the weekends either.

I think it is always tiring when you start a new job. Things that become really routine and easy quite quickly, are still things you need to concentrate on and think about. It's normal to be tired.

IchWill · 10/05/2023 23:35

I have a good career, in the main I enjoy the nature of my job and I think I'm good at it. But I absolutely hate HAVING to work.

I work long hours, I'm exhausted, I'm fed up with the rat race, hate the lack of work / life balance and not having time for my favourite hobby any more.

I dream of winning big money, so I can quit working. To compound matters. I bought EXDH out of our house a few years ago, but to pay him off, I had to increase the mortgage term to keep repayments affordable, so I've a mortgage until retirement age now. Another 20 years of the daily drudge.

I honestly count my blessings, but I'm worn out and fed up. There must be more to life.

FijiSea · 10/05/2023 23:41

I really enjoy my job.
Its a low paid part time job but I take pride in anything I do at work even basic tasks.
I just like being out of the house and at work and doing a good shift. I always feel satisfied at the end of the shift. I think that is one of the reasons I enjoy it , the sense of pride and satisfaction when I’m finished.

Exaspa · 10/05/2023 23:50

I enjoy aspects of my job and the days I can WFH are okay but I absolutely dread and despise the days I'm on site. The interruptions mean the day is always a write off and most of the people I work with, with a couple of exceptions, are beyond entitled and just bloody awful. Plus the commute on the days I'm on site is truly miserable, since the b*stard clocks went forward recently I've effectively been forcing my body to get up and move about at 4.45am to get public transport (driving not currently an option). As a natural owl it's like a form of jetlag torture, I'm really not productive on site days. I really don't mind working but God almighty I loathe having to go to work.

I've gone from PT teaching to FT "normal job" and it's a breeze!!!! I love my new role. A breath of fresh air.

I've done the same. Sooo easy by comparison. Feels like I have loads of free time and don't the long holidays because I'm not knackered and stressed.

Anc0 · 10/05/2023 23:58

My last job was okay, but quite monotonous. I could choose to WFH whenever I liked, and then there wasn't much working as I never had loads to do. I didn't hate it but it wasn't fulfilling or rewarding in any way whatsoever.
I left a couple of months ago and am taking a bit of a break from work, have decided to study for a new qualification so I can change careers, might work PT in the meantime if something good comes up, but if not I'll hopefully be in something more meaningful in a couple of years!

TeenLifeMum · 10/05/2023 23:59

I used to but now it’s just to pay the bills. Hoping that’ll change at some point but I miss loving my job.

Can you please say what you work at?

I am doing a part-time WFH job currently but its coming to an end.

I previously worked FT in a corporate environment. Good salary and benefits with an annual bonus but I absolutely hated it.

I've read threads where people berate part time/SAHMs and make declarations of how they could never do it and how much they love their jobs. Then you read threads like this and realise just how many are stuck in the rat race and yearn to be free of it.

I loved going on holidays and not worrying about money but undoubtedly I'm more at peace with far less money and part-time hours.

I lovd my job! I'm an accountant.

Valid8me · 11/05/2023 01:30

Of course I don't enjoy it, who does? My job is OK but I wouldnt work if I didn't have to. I've worked FT from the age of 17 (now 52) and it pays the bills and pays for my holidays. That's it. Its just something we have to do to pay for the things we want in life.

coxesorangepippin · 11/05/2023 01:32

Mainly WFH and tbh this makes things much more bearable

Plus the job i do is easy/ usually not that busy

RunThroughTheJungle · 11/05/2023 01:33

I absolutely giving hate my job!
I can't put it any nicer than that. But I need it, esp now husband has fucked off and left me to run the house myself. Selfish bastard.

theGooHasGone · 11/05/2023 01:34

I genuinely love my job. WFH, tech field.

Tayegete · 11/05/2023 01:47

I genuinely don’t mind my job in HR. It’s mostly working from home, lots of flexibility and generally colleagues are nice. Weirdly I hated it for the first 18 months. It’s low stress but still varied. I’m currently considering a promotion but it’s a big step up and although the money would be great I’m worried about upsetting my current work life balance/ taking on more stress. I’m experienced in my current role which makes it a lot more comfortable than stressful.
I’d much prefer it if I worked 3 days a week and had more holiday though.

Heimy88 · 11/05/2023 02:11

Really love my job (management role in a small charity) and my team is amazing, pay is good compared with the average job. Despite this I feel that this world we live in is so messed up that I have to do this every day just to get by financially, some months we don't even manage that. I work with people in much more difficult situations than mine and often find myself thinking about how absurd it feels to me that we all have to spend the majority of our waking lives working, separated from our families and friends, rather than contributing our different skills and talents to our communities (our "villages", which hardly even exist these days) and working towards a better world/system. It's absolutely exhausting and bizarre that humankind, has developed in this way. But I can also see how it has, as the wealthiest and most powerful on this little planet do quite well out of it, don't they. :(

** Fucking hate my job, obviously.

Desiredeffect · 11/05/2023 02:33

No I hate working in general and have left working in social care back into another sector. The job is nice and people friendly but like most people I prefer to stay at home. But sadly bills need paying

Wigglewigglewitch · 04/07/2023 23:08

I love my job. I work in charity fundraising. I started out in a corporate career and switched over very early. I work from home full time as our team is fully remote - we did this pre-Covid, as we are international and a lot of our team are in Ghana! In previous jobs, I didn’t like the office environment, all the pointless politics and time wasting. And unless you are on site with the actual service delivery of your charity (ie I used to fundraise for a disability respite centre and I was in an office in their main activity centre) there is no benefit to it in that sense.

FarmGirl78 · 05/07/2023 00:24

I hate going to work with a passion. However I do love my job.

Howmuchfurther · 11/08/2023 00:14

Partly it’s stamina.

Starting your first full time job is like training for a marathon by running one on the first day. Of course you are exhausted right now. You will get used to it.

You are using lots of brain power right now even on simple things like remembering your desk, the computer system, who does what, etc. When those things are second nature, it will be less tiring. Much.
