To expect better than this at the Dentist (confusion over treatment)

I have been having treatment at the dentist with the actual dentist every 3 months for gum disease. The dentist would give my teeth a clean and I would only be charged for the basic rate about £25 at the moment.
This was to help keep the plaque down etc and I also got advise about treatments and things i could do at home like mouthwash, interdental sticks etc?

My dentist has now left and at my new appointment with new dentist at the practice I have been told this.

I need a proper half hour deep clean treatment with the dentist every 3 months and it will be £90. When i mentioned id been having it done at the normal price, the dentist said i shouldnt have been.

I should be having a proper appointment for half hour clean. I have got an appt for this next month.

Im confused and annoyed whose right and whose wrong? How to go forward.
Have i got grounds for complaint?

My nhs doesn't do clean, not even at check up. I have to pay hygenist which is £30

yes its the 70 one, confusion is why has it not been this in the past, why has a change of dentist meant this has happened? Should i raise it further?

I have exactly the same treatment as you. I'm charged for half an hour deep clean appointment at the more expensive rate.

I suppose you could look at it that you've been undercharged up until now and saved quite a bit of money 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don't think NHS covers dental hygiene treatment, you have to pay. Mine seems to go up every time I go it was about £65 last time. Sounds like your previous dentist was doing you a favour.

Complain about what? The fact that you’ve been significantly undercharged until now? Confused

It's not clear. How long did your clean usually take? If it was half an hour you've been getting a bargain. If less, then this dentist has a different opinion to your previous one. That's not necessarily grounds for complaint.

I think this is a common grey area.

I think - and I'm just a patient, not a dentist - that a dentist is only supposed to do a quick scale and polish as part of your normal checkup if there's a clinical need.

Every dentist will recommend a proper cleaning - it prevents problems from escalating - but it's seen as elective treatment, so you have to pay private for it (and it's usually quite expensive). £50 to £100 sounds about right.

I would wager your last dentist was just really nice and doing you a freebie. Which his why the new dentist is hacked off, because it makes it harder for them to upsell you a private treatment.

Quite possibly old dentist was doing a basic clean and new dentist thinks you need the fuller clean
