I think it's particularly interesting when paired with this story

"I am the führer. I’m the king"

Boris says he doesn’t recognise this version of events. I doubt very much he physically squared up to Charles. Makes a good headline though.

jgw1 · 09/05/2023 12:38

Presumably if Boris doesn't like unelected people interfering in the running of the country he is consistently urging the abolition of the HoLs and stressing that Sunak and before him Truss ought to have had an election by now...

ThreeFeetTall · 09/05/2023 12:38

Boris was, to be fair, making the point that Charles shouldn't voice his political views which for democracy is a good thing.

BIWI · 09/05/2023 12:40

... yes, but good for PC!

Greenfairydust · 09/05/2023 12:43

''@ThreeFeetTall

The Rwanda policy repulses anyone who has a shred of decency and is not compatible with the idea of a democratic country...

It is a vile initiative (and a complete waste of money) that smacks of right-wing propaganda and shames the UK.

Charles was perfectly right to make that point to that idiot Johnson.

If Boris doesn't think it is good for those who arent' elected to interfer in government, then I am sure he would campaign for the abolition of the HoLs, refuse to appoint anyone to it and be vocal in condeming any PM who took office and didn't immediately go to the country....

Absolutely.

Boris hasn't had much air time lately...maybe Carrie is concerned that his much-polished halo has slipped from the public gaze?

Or maybe it's all just bollocks to get Boris in the news again, before Carrie tries to re-launch his political career?

🤷‍♀️

Sounds like an excellent case for abolishing the monarchy then.

CalistoNoSolo · 09/05/2023 13:03

Johnson is a vile piece of work who cares only for himself. But Charles should not under any circumstances interfere with government or government policies, no matter how despicable they may be. The whole thing makes a mockery of the UK (again) and our pathetic cap doffing version of democracy.

ThreeFeetTall · 09/05/2023 13:04

Yep, I think that the idea that the monarch can give advice to the monarch at their weekly meetings whilst expressing no opinions is ridiculous. Charles has more sensible views than Boris but that's juts chance really.

ThreeFeetTall · 09/05/2023 13:05

Sorry I meant advise the PM

Chuckydidit · 09/05/2023 13:06

For once in my life I’m backing BJ.

I think probably Boris has seen recently how unpopular the monarchy and Charles are and ever one to jump on a bandwagon has leapt.

Worth remembering that Boris lied to the Queen too.

GretaGood · 09/05/2023 13:19

I was annoyed when KC and the Arch of C spoke against Rwanda - we need to get control and as far as I can see they have no ideas and aren’t giving any of their land or palaces to help.
There is going to be international migration but I’d rather we had a say in the matter - not the relatively wealthy (paying people traffickers) single, mostly male economic migrants.
More starving Sudanese ,homeless Dyrians etc etc

Hiphopopotamonster · 09/05/2023 13:12

We’ll never know exactly what happened because Charles will never blab, but I do reckon it’s been ramped up for a good story.

“Obviously they didn’t square up to get in the ring.”

SerendipityJane · 09/05/2023 13:03

And the HoL for good measure.

I don't actually have that much of a problem with the monarch expressing an opinion in private though. Boris is a twat and the Rwanda policy is fucking abhorrent so all power to Charlie for speaking up.

A very sweeping statement. I think I am a decent human being. I don't agree that predominantly males are paying a lot of money to the people smugglers to come to the UK illegally. There are legal routes that should be used. I had a student who came from Syria. His Uncle and Aunt had been bombed in their home and killed. His father was a doctor and applied to bring his wife two children and his orphaned nephew to the UK. They were granted asylum legally. People like this, families with children, are waiting patiently in war torn countries whilst risking their lives everyday. Their asylum is slowed down because of illegal immigrants who don't come from war torn countries, e.g. Albania, and really are just economic migrants rather than genuine asylum seekers, who jump the queue. The Rwandian policy just seeks to move the economic migrants off to Rwanda who has agreed to take them. They will be safe there. They won't be persecuted if gay or transgender. But these economic migrants don't want that because they want to be accommodated in the UK where they can both claim benefits and operate drug gangs. There is no shame at all about wanting to put legal asylum seekers before illegal ones and you are deluded if you think there is.
