To feel sad that I did nothing for the queen's jubilee or the King's coronation?

Two big events but I did nothing for them. In later life I can't help but feel I will regret this.
Often all I feel I do is work, go shopping and that's it. Money is tight which I know it is for everyone but it's just a bit depressing when I really think about it.

I watched online with friends.
We were mainly alone but had lots of fun chatting to each other, theres threads on here too, to join in with.
You never have to be totally alone with the Internet.
As daft as it sounds, I've had some great times this way.

I didn't even watch either and the Eurovision doesn't float my boat either 🤣

I'm still considering going to Liverpool for Eurovision to watch on a big screen, but if not, I'll absolutely watch with friends online.

Skyeheather · 08/05/2023 20:26

You are BU saying this now, it's over.

You should have come on here last week and asked people for ideas of how you could celebrate by yourself with no money, you would have been given lots of ideas.

We decorated the house with bunting and paper chains, watched the TV coverage and we had some treats like scones with jam and cream, cupcakes, sandwiches - nothing that cost very much money at all. You could have done something if you had wanted to............

electriclight · 08/05/2023 20:29

Me too op. I think big events are difficult when you're single. It felt like everyone I knew had family plans. No street party here either.

I'm single.

I wouldn't have wanted to do anything for it anyway.

Now eurovision is another matter...

Bloopsie · 08/05/2023 20:53

You are not being UR but ridiculous.. you are short of money and you are sad that you didnt get to celebrate billionaire by the accident of birth, getting a priceless jewel and diamond covered gold crown put on his head? (who also used to be bestie with jimmy savile)

Single, family didnt want to do anything and my street didn't have a party.

Me too, so I took myself to London alone and had a fabulous day with random strangers.

What about having a picnic in lovely park somewhere type of thing with friends or family,
Could even be by the beach side,

Vist botanical Gardens somewhere good,

Buy a second hand book of leisure activities on a budget from Internet or charity shop or just look up on Google Internet and youtube too,

Goodread1 · 08/05/2023 21:08

Where did you stay overnight then?

Did you vist anywhere that was interesting too?,

I booked a guest room at church St Hotel in Camberwell , in London too

It's really quirky small unausal hotel, mix of Fredia khalo ornaments and South American cultral stuff feel ect, and stylish olde worlde, Mediterranean authentic bedroom furniture , and breakfast room..

Lovely welcome, with staff too,

I recommend this hotel,

I also had afternoon high tea, at cargardon Gardens 5 star hotel in Chelsa, Kensington

I would recommend this too

MissingMoominMamma · 08/05/2023 21:14

I didn’t watch either of those. I’m simply not interested. I am interested in lots of other things though!

William’s Coronation?

Ah thanks. I don't speak Twat.

UsingChangeofName · 08/05/2023 21:22

I think YABU to choose not to do anything, and then feel sad about it.

Fine not to do anything if you don't want to.
But if you did want to, you could have invited people to do something, or you could have joined anyone of the many, many community events that were going on that were open to anyone who wanted to join.

I'm staying in a dorm, in a hostel in July so I can spend the week in London.
I'm seeing Maroon 5 the night I arrive, Billy Joel the night I leave, Brokeback Mountain, the play, another night and Wicked another.
During the day I'll be out and about at museums and I'm going to go to Brighton on one of the days.
I can't wait.

DothThouTwerk · 08/05/2023 22:19

I just carried on with my normal day, I didn't watch a second of it 🤷‍♀️ was too busy entertaining the toddler with Disney+ whilst it rained all day.

Goodread1 · 08/05/2023 22:26

@TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 08/05/2023 22:30

Thank you.
I went just for two days recently and saw, "A Little Life", and "Les Mis", plus went all over London and did a few museums, lots of eating, people watching and generally just soaking up the atmosphere.
I absolutely love the vibe, I even love the Tube!

I love the tube too! Everything about London is vibrant

Fansandblankets · 08/05/2023 22:39

I watched it all. Same with the jubilee. If I’m still around next time I’m definitely going to London!

stayathomer · 08/05/2023 22:44

It’s done now but try to get yourself out of the mindset that money is necessary for anything like that- you wander into town for example and you get some of the buzz, or put up decorations. And a great suggestion by a person above to get into Eurovision!!

DanceMonster · 08/05/2023 22:49

I didn’t do anything, didn’t even watch it. Still had a lovely weekend though! Honestly I just wasn’t interested in it. I believe the monarchy should be abolished, so didn’t fancy celebrating its continuation.

FarmersWife3 · 08/05/2023 22:52

Why not let it inspire you to do something positive now (well sometime soon!)? I though the message was that we should all try to 'serve' in some way (volunteering etc). Why not see if you can do something voluntarily that interests you. That would arguably have a much more lasting and positive impact that you could look back on as being spurred by the coronation?

I don't think it's fair to imply it's a choice.

I didn't invite anyone because everyone I tentatively sounded out already had plans.

I guess there were lots of community events. Not in my village, but elsewhere. Not everyone is brave enough to rock up alone though. And it's still ok to feel a bit sad that you have to.

Longtimelurkerfinallyposts · 09/05/2023 07:12

"70 years from end of WWII, or something)..."
well that's another event that the OP's missed out on! @LimeCheesecake

LimeCheesecake · 09/05/2023 07:15

@Longtimelurkerfinallyposts - ha sorry, 80!

but that is probably going to be the next “government encourages street parties” event.

Lcb123 · 09/05/2023 07:17

I didn’t do anything for either, and happily so. Ridiculous waste of money. But you sound quite down, have you looked at some hobbies or social groups?
