Why do some people interrogate others?

You know, how they just rapid fire shoots, often personal, questions. And give very loud opinions of other people’s life / choices?

What is that about?

For example, I have a family member, who always seems to have to ask about my dating life, she knows I don’t have one.
Question, after question why not? How do I manage alone? I’m getting old. Hurry, hurry.
Always loudly, so I’m mortified and everyone else hears.

Another is a guy at my work.
All he does is ask personal question.
Where are you from, what is that accent, what’s that you have for lunch, what’s in it, is your family here…. On and on he goes.

Why?

Arrogance. Narcissism. Air of superiority. Lack of self awareness. Lack of social skills. Any, or all of the above

They are rude but you need to have boundaries and stop it getting to such a stage.

MidsummerNightsDream · 08/05/2023 18:01

Because they don't know how to have a polite conversation with someone.

Some people are just shit at conversations.

Answer with the biggest most fanciful lie you can, and change the answer each time. They're just being nosey bastards, so let them think you have a red hot 21yo lover and you're thinking of emigrating. Grin

Is the family member older and married? You could be rude back and say, "enough about my love life how's your marriage, are you still having sex at your age?"

Or just make a joke about her giving you the 3rd degree and not answer her questions.

The guy at work sounds like he's just making conversation though.
