I know this is a TAAT and will be deleted soon, but it just pisses me off that some parents post, whining about their intelligent children not doing what they want (Oh no, my intelligent daughter is ONLY a supply teacher) then get the thread deleted because normal people tell them they are twats and they can't accept it?

I haven't seen any post like that , parents of grown up children shouldn't really be concerned what job their kids have as long as it's legal, they are happy and pays the bills .

Is my mum posting on MN then?😬

That poor women, I would be going LC or even NC if that was parents. I was wondering where the thread had gone…did the OP request it to be deleted??

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 07/05/2023 16:47

I suspect that the OP of that thread didn't like having her arse handed to her for being such a horrible parent and had it deleted.

The problem is that some parents view their children as extensions of themselves.

It means that Little Johnny winning cross country, or getting his grade 6 piano is viewed by the parents as a sign that they're a great parent. Little Sally has to get good grades in school, not because it's nice she values learning, but because good grades make her parents happy and they can pat themselves on the back.
Same when David goes to university and David's mother needs to make sure that all her friends know that he's gone to the right type of university, because secretly she'd hate having to say that he's gone (whispers) to an ex-poly. And Tina's Dad might be more than happy to tell the world she's a lawyer, but wouldn't want too many people knowing she's a supply teacher.

At some point the children will recognise their parents' attitudes and will probably put some distance in place.

My Mum likes to act concerned about my health. When what she actually wants to do is tell me how fat I am. (UK 16 so I could stand to lose a bit but still...)
