To feel a bit said that we have nothing planned for this weekend?

There is a sense of celebration, everyone seems to be visiting family or having friends around for parties. We only have a small family who live far away, we have one dd..we haven't been invited anywhere and I haven't organised anything. I could have invited friends around but haven't .. now I have FOMO!

We are going to the beach..walking hounds then having chips. Planned this to avoid all the shite.

Theres surprisingly little happening here! One screening, in the Eurovision fan village, which will be packed and more focused on Eurovision than anything else! 22 street parties for 550,000 people, none of which are near us.

Our local church is having a do, which I wouldn’t know about if my mum hadn’t seen a poster. So there may be something local like that that you aren’t aware of.

The only coronation I’m watching tomorrow is of Queen Charlotte. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story was released on Netflix yesterday and I’m going to be binge watching it tomorrow. DH is doing next to nothing and the boys will be in the garden and/or practicing their parkour skills in the living room.

You have made my weekend - cake & Netflix it is x

I find it hard to believe there are places where absolutely nothing is happening? I'm at my mums care home tomorrow. Then we're off for an royal afternoon tea, then the lighting of a beacon. Then Sunday, cake and prosecco on the green. Then Monday off to a garden party. All open to local people. I'm sure if you look, you'll find plenty of stuff going on.

No really, I haven’t seen anything advertised but then I saw one house in about a 6 mile radius with flags up when it was the queen’s jubilee!

i had a look on my local areas tourist website “visit *name of county” and they had a list of about 9 different events - national trust, picnics, local town fetes etc. Have a look on the website for your town and see what’s listed and go along to something. We don’t see much of our extended family so do event type things and it makes celebrations/big days special. We did the same at Easter. While you’re at it, look at which events the same places have coming up next and get them in the diary. It’s tough when you don’t have extended family, I spent a lot of ocassions being sad that everyone else seemed to be seeing extended family/friends and it was just the three of us. I’ve realised I’m responsible for making the magic, and we have a much more relaxing time - we choose events that suit us best/sound most fun, turn up when we want and can leave when we want without coordinating with loads of other people on times that are best for them etc.

I also have a little “bucket list” of museums/restaurants/activities we’d like to do. I add to it as I see new things, and when I need inspiration I have a look and pick something we fancy.

I’ve also seen lots of free printables online for the coronation for bunting/posters/colouring pages depending on the age of your children some of those could be fun to do. You could do some baking etc. I hope you have a lovely day whatever you decide to do.

YukoandHiro · 05/05/2023 20:07

Same here. Just been googling family friendly events in nearby towns to see if we can try to do something

Tarantullah · 05/05/2023 20:07

Have a look on local Facebook groups, plenty of free events going on :) here there's free face painting, games, crafts, some market type stalls, music, they are streaming it but plenty to enjoy even if not into the coronation itself. Hot lunch as well at the community centre for those who need it (free of course)- happens most Saturday's but used the coronation to reach out to more people and advertise it more.

My df is poorly so I’m not even at home.
I’m making the best of it with df, salmon and cucumber sarnies and Mr Kipling french fancies. A glass of wine, all good.
If he’s up to it there will be cream teas at his local church hall.

Df camped on the pavement for the 1953 coronation so it will be interesting watching this one with him.

I can't think of much worse than celebrating the Coronation Grin

Couldn't they have just signed a book and be done with it

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 05/05/2023 20:56

Someone on our local Facebook page has put up some colouring sheets and some pdfs for playing coronation bingo.

I'm avoiding the whole thing but even in our small town I think there are things to go to.

Great to know. I’ve been waiting for ages after seeing the previews for it.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that people were lying when they said there was nothing go on. Just that it's the opposite of around me. As in I can't believe anyone has walked on the moon.
Maybe, though, I found things because I was interested. And if you're not interested, you won't have taken any advertising on board or deliberately searched for anything.
Anyway, whatever you do, have a lovely day.

EnaSharplesStout · 05/05/2023 21:15

@gei do you have a friend you could go to? I’ve just had wine and a disco listening to steps with my best friend and her 3 small children in her tiny living room. Nothing fancy but lifted both our spirits.

EnaSharplesStout · 05/05/2023 21:17

Not because of the coronation btw, just because life is hard and it cheered us up!
