To think all this free food is not necessarily a good thing?

DS works for one of the higher end supermarkets and often brings home food on it's date.

Veg I'll use, ready meals go in the freezer often never to be thought of again meat goes in the freezer and does get used, I'll take an out of date sandwich to work next day, but a lot of it is cakes/ desserts and a lot of it ends up in the bin, simply because we can't use it in time. I'll push dates on some things, but there are limits. I don't really want to eat large quantities of cake, but if it's there, I hate to see it wasted.

Last night he bought home 64, 64!, giant Easter Bunny cookies. They are actually well in date but obsolete now Easter has passed, but what am I supposed to do with them?!

He's so pleased with himself when he brings his haul home but....

Seconding the community fridge

He doesn't have to bring anything home, if the bunnies are well in date seems really odd and actually selfish for him to bring so many back- I'm sure they would be well appreciated elsewhere. Food that goes out on the day is a bit different but I'm sure the store has something in place.

I'm surprised the store isn't giving away food like this to a food bank or fair share scheme. As you say individuals can't really use that much!

Yes, taking 64 cookies is grabby in the extreme! Tell him to stop, fgs.

Offer some bunnies to your neighbours. Let kids take some to school to share with their friends. We have several cooking apple trees and I cook with some, freeze some, then give some toy sisters and neighbours. I'd hate them to go to waste.

Maybe let a school know? Every now and then someone bring a a load of baked goods up to our school and the parents grab a couple of bits on their way out!

He needs to get his supermarket to link up with one of the "wate not want not" type community kitchens

(I'm mildly surprised that's not happening already, as so many do)

Tell him to stop bringing so much stuff home?
