to ask you to recommend a TV with good customer service? - not Sony!

I need a new TV not super huge sort of 40 -45 inch zone but I want to give my custom to a manufacture with good customer service.

I have had a Sony TV which has been rubbish, the software is constantly failing, it never got on with Amazon Prime (even before it stop being supported) and always crashed and it's finally packed up.

Sony customer service I have found is utterly shit - things like you can't find a phone number for love or money; trying to do stuff through the website is impossible for example it won't let you contact them via a form to book a repair until you've been through the troubleshooting - but the troubleshooting just ends up taking you back to the front. the troubleshooting also asks you things you can't find out like what things say in the menu - when the bloody thing won't turn on.

Anyone got any TV recommendations for one with a good reliable tv and good customer service please?

Samsung. We've had a couple now and they've been flawless

ghostyslovesheets · 05/05/2023 11:55

My Sony wouldn’t play Netflix half the time - got an LG now with no issues - never spoken to their customer service though

HeroOfMyTale · 05/05/2023 11:55

thank you @MrsWidgerysLodger
have you had any dealings with their customer service? I'm guessing not then?

Never had any issue with my LG so never really needed customer service.

Ditto Samsung.

Some apps do not exist for various makes. So you have to be careful of that. For example LG does not have the BTSport app.

But otherwise they are all much of a muchness to me. I would say the Samsung user interface is better than the LG one.

HeroOfMyTale · 05/05/2023 11:57

@ghostyslovesheets yes - Sony (considering it used to have a reputation as good manufacturer at least years ago) TVs are appalling. This is my second one (I should have learnt my lesson) but NEVER again!

LG - how long have you had it?

HeroOfMyTale · 05/05/2023 11:58

@GasPanic - thanks. You would hope they would much of a muchness. My life experienrce with TVs was very much like that. Turn it on. It works. For years. Then dies.

These Sony things are the devils work - lots of apps don't work/crash etc and now it's got a fault that according to the website should be repairable but I can't get hold of them at all.

I guess it depends how old it is. Problem is tech does move very quickly these days and every now and then something happens that the manufacturers can't address by upgrading firmware.

Sony have a good rep for picture etc. Have you considered getting a fire stick and running amazon off that rather than renewing the entire tv if it has a good picture still ?

OneTC · 05/05/2023 12:08

Never had to deal with support but Samsung seem to be the most seamless of the smart TVs I've used. Currently got 2 Sony's and not personally had a problem with them but their UI is garbage

JuneShitfield · 05/05/2023 12:11

My Panasonic seems OK. Its own software is out of date now though, I run everything through Apple TV, via the respective apps. That seems to work OK.

JuneShitfield · 05/05/2023 12:12

And Loewe are good but v expensive.

Confuzzlediddled · 05/05/2023 12:13

Hisense, worked there as a temp a few years ago so saw the customer service from the inside, there were times we really did go above and beyond, including the memorable time I replaced a broken TV by delivering it to the chaps house as I lived a few streets away!

lap90 · 05/05/2023 12:15

Well our LG TV of 4 years ago developed a fault and John Lewis gave us a full refund to replace it (had a 5 year guarantee). Provided great assistance over the phone in trying to solve the matter before giving us that option.

PinkFootstool · 05/05/2023 12:23

My Bush TV (smart) is 8yrs old, never needed to control customer service. Same for my 12yo LG (not smart).

Nat6999 · 05/05/2023 12:25

LG & buy from Richer Sounds if you can, you get a 6 year guarantee free & customer service is excellent.

Hi - probably 5 years now with no issues

Nolongera · 05/05/2023 12:57

With a modern TV you shouldn't need any customer service, it should work faultlessly.

I bought a 42 inch LG 3 years ago and it does everything bar make your breakfast, 330 quid.

Just had a look at Argos and they are even cheaper now, loads of decent TVs for £250.

I can remember when a 20 inch colour TV was 2 months pay and they broke down all the time.

HeroOfMyTale · 05/05/2023 14:55

Thank you everyone. I bit the bullet and ordered an LG

hotdiggetydog · 05/05/2023 15:16

Buy it from richer sounds. 6 year warranty and they price match anywhere

OnMyWayToSenility · 05/05/2023 15:27

I bought an LG and not great tbh really fiddly to set up and bit annoying Apps wise

Samsung are way better! 4K good remotes easy to understand settings etc

John Lewis have a 2yr warranty and I took out insurance £40 for accidental damage.

My son broke it and they replaced it within 5 days.

CoffeeWithCheese · 05/05/2023 16:20

The Sony we have isn't a smart one - but for picture quality it's cracking.

Most of ours are Samsung just because the kids are familiar with app layout etc so the potential for "muum how do I get Netflix" is reduced. They have ridiculously fucking short power cables though when it comes to wall mounting them.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 05/05/2023 16:25

Samsung I've had 2 Faultless

Mrsherdwick · 05/05/2023 18:08

Samsung. Don’t know about customer service as never needed it.

Dubonet · 05/05/2023 18:23

I've been a Samsung TV owner for years never had a problem with the TVs.

However our Samsung American Fridge freezer developed s fault, its over the Internet as a well know fault. Its 4 years old, cost £1200

Samsung initially offered me a like for like replacement but have reneged on that. They then told me they offered support for only 5 year,s despite claiming a 10 year warranty, When I pointed out my appliance was only 4 years and they supported for 5, they have backtracked on that too.

The customer service is appalling, they have now offered me £180 as a refund which us appaling.

I will never buy another Samsung appliance again, their service is so poor.

I'm now considering how I pursue this.

Sony are dreadful aren't they!
We have LG and always loved them
