just seen a tiny mouse sitting by my car. It didn’t move when I approached it and only when I rustled a lead towards it did it run off. Does this mean the house is invested if they are this close and on the drive?! So worried about this as we have a crawling baby!!

You are blowing this way out of proportion! It's a mouse, mice live outside and in gardens etc. In no way does this mean your house is infested

passthegingordon · 04/05/2023 15:40

No need to panic at all - it was probably just passing by outside. And unless you've heard any indoors then there is no indication that any are even inside your house, let alone an infestation.

Curtains70 · 04/05/2023 15:41

No, there's loads of mice around. Doesn't mean they're in your house. You'll know if you have mice. They're loud, leave droppings and chew things.

To be safe just try and block any holes that may be a way into your house. I'm sure it's fine.

ansdip · 04/05/2023 15:44

We have had them in the attic, apparently now treated last time Rentokil checked.

it was grey is that a normal colour? Just anxious because of the baby! Is it ok for them to crawl outside on the lawn etc?

Mice will not eat your baby.

SirVixofVixHall · 04/05/2023 15:47

Mice can leave the nest before their eyes are fully open, possibly it couldn’t see you.
But anyway, no it isn’t a worry, lots of mice in every garden. Only one species of mouse that prefers to live in houses (House Mice). Yours may well have been a Field Mouse.

Toomanylatenightprogs · 04/05/2023 15:53

Yes, wild mice are grey in colour, or beige-grey.
Yes, your baby is quite safe sitting, lying and crawling on your lawn.
No, a mice will not eat or bite your child. They run away from people, dogs, cats and babies.
Children who grow up on farms have stronger immune systems than most children —- and there are plenty of mice and rats on a farm, as well as pigs, cows, sheep, chickens and all the excrement they produce.

Get a cat.

Get a cat.

Which will shit in its liter tray, walk all over it and then run all over your kitchen surfaces lol.

Seriously though op, you saw a mouse, outside. Where mice live. Do you freak out like this when you see a pigeon? Because they have just as many germs. As do all animals...and people...and most things outside...the air...the ground... etc..

Glitterblue · 04/05/2023 16:15

It’s totally fine, we live by a farm and have all sorts of animals passing through our garden, hedgehogs, foxes, mice, even a rat once but we don’t have anything in the house. You’d definitely know about it if you had ANY mice in your house, let alone an infestation. They’re noisy, you’d hear scratching, rustling noises, you’d see droppings. All lawns will have mice and other animals walking across them, especially during the night, and people will have no idea what’s been there and let their kids play. It’ll be fine 🙂 I had no idea we have a cat visiting our garden many times a day until we went on holiday and got constant alerts on the camera, and my friend set up a wildlife camera to see what goes into their garden at night and she found they have loads of visitors that they were unaware of.

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 04/05/2023 16:19

I get mice, rats, voles, weasels, cats, rabbits, birds of all types, frogs, toads and grass snakes in my garden. No one has died or even become ill. You are over reacting.

UANBU to be worried or query this, in my opinion. Better to know the situation & take steps if needed. We had mice about 18 months ago, heard them scuttling in the ceiling space, then saw evidence of them having eaten some chocolate I'd put aside as a Christmas gift in a spare room. Only saw one, the very day I had council pest control out. And we do have a cat! An old gitl though, it was her eho alerted me when the only one I saw appeared in our kitchen. Ours were coming in through the loft from a neighbour. If you've heard nothing scuttling, you're OK for now. Personally I'd put a few trays down for peace of mind, if you know they're so close to your house. That way if they do venture in you can hopefully nip it in the bud quickly. If you did put poison down just only get the lockable trays with having your baby.

I've never seen any mice outside but OMG my cats can find them

There are mice everywhere. It's normal.
