To expect the neighbour to burn wood outside today?

Lovely day, sun's out.

Neighbours decided to have a bonfire and stink the garden out.

Now sitting here with wet washing waiting to go out

Aibu to expect people not to do this, or wait until the evening?

I have a very small fire box I use in the evenings when sitting outside. I only use decent kiln dried wood in it though because that's what I like. Old wood would be piled on a corner for insect and small animals to live in and under. Any wood that had been painted would go to the tip as I can't stand chemical smells.

Also, I obviously don't use it when the ground is tinder dry. I also have an ooni wood fired pizza oven I use. But no BBQ!

How I loathe these threads, people have a right to have bonfires. People should stop complaining about them.

It's more to do with being considerate and using common sence, which unfortunately seems to be becoming rather thin on the ground.
More and more we're living in a "sod you Jack" environment.
Such a shame.

I love a bonfire or campfire. The smell of wood smoke is lovely. A natural ancient smell.
It’s not the weekend so it’s not unreasonable at all. The neighbour wouldn’t have know you wanted to hang your washing out.
They are hardly going to have a bonfire when it’s raining and it’s not that nice a day weather wise.
Live and let live OP.

You washing wasn’t out yet today tho? So technically he called dibs on burning vs your drying washing.

I accept the argument of everyone has the right to do as they please within legal limits, but I'm honestly at a loss as to why people regularly want to burn stuff in their gardens. It doesn't seem like fun, and I don't understand how they have so much stuff to burn. What are you all burning?

OhmygodDont · 04/05/2023 17:54

For us we are burning this year, all the stuff we chopped down last year. Then whole width of the garden we had lost a good 5/6ft that needed to go plus topping all the trees that we wanted to keep that had been left to grow to crazy heights. But I don’t burn when the neighbours washing is out and have managed to get nearly all of it gone using 3 days so far this year.

We have a neighbour who had a bonfire mid afternoon on the Saturday after Easter. It was a bit annoying (because the smoke blew right over to our house and garden) but not the end of the world. Then it started again mid morning on the Sunday. Then the Monday then the Tuesday.

It's not dreadful to have a bonfire after dark over a couple of hours but keeping one going day after day is really not okay.
