Growth scan worry

Hi guys I'm 33 weeks and went for my monthly growth scan this morning, since the last scan my baby's stomach growth has dropped by 27 centiles. But everything else is still getting bigger. Head is on the 90th centile and abdominal circumference on the 10th centile. I'm being re scanned in 2 weeks but now I have 2 weeks of worrying wondering if she's growing ☹️ anyone experienced similar and all okay in the end?? Also the deepest level of amniotic fluid she could find was 2.2 cm

My last pregnancy growth was slow with little one and fluid was also low so had an amnio, where they test the amniotic fluid. Thankfully all was fine and is now a healthy little toddler. Sending best wishes and luck, I know it's a difficult wait

My younger one had issues re growth on the later scans. They were concerned re length of long bones, but turned out to be absolutely fine. Also they worried about his weight over all but he was quite a healthy weight in the end.

My last pregnancy was monitored throughout. Baby too small, stomach too big, head to small you name it. Talk about induction if she failed to grow.
When she did make her appearance she was huge, scans were so inaccurate she was on the larger side and in proportion, albeit a big chubba tummy.
I actually think scans do more harm than good. Both my pregnancies ended up monitored because of growth and caused lots of unnecessary worry.
Try to just think of it as the risk adverse NHS being over cautious because in most cases that is exactly what it is.

I have known so many people who’ve had similar issues flagged and then all was well at a later scan or once baby was born. As hard as I know it is, try to relax and focus on looking after yourself while bubba continues cooking! There is nothing you can do for two weeks but if you have any changes in movement don’t be scared to contact maternity triage and get checked out.

Another one here with a pregnancy monitored for IUGR. Ended up having c section due to worries that baby had stopped growing. All was fine & DS was born a healthy weight with no problems. X

Can I ask when they decide to do the section, if in 2 weeks time nothing has changed or she has dropped more will I be expecting her to be pulled out quickly or will they try get me to term?

I was somewhere between 37 & 38 weeks when had the section, DS is 13 now so a while ago! I think my section date was about a week or so after my last scan, so not rushed & time to get ready.

…and yes I think they do generally try to get the pregnancy to term.

Hiya, I'm 31 weeks pregnant and baby had dropped from 50th to 10th centile a couple of weeks ago. Had another scan a couple of days ago and she's back up to the 25th centile. Have another scan again in 2 weeks time. I had a small baby in my first pregnancy so get extra checks. I know its a worry but a lot of the time all is okay!

MatildaTheCat · 04/05/2023 16:42

OP have you been offered Doppler scans between the USSs? Nobody here can really comment on your situation because there will be many other influencing factors. Keep an eye on your baby’s movements and call straight away if you are worried or there is a marked change.

They will generally try to get you to term- at least 37 weeks and might consider giving you steroid shots if they are considering early intervention.

If you feel unsure about the plan do go back and ask for clarification. Many babies have their growth regularly monitored and it’s an overall picture that leads decisions usually rather than one unusual measurement. As mentioned above, most of those babies are absolutely fine.

But you sound worried so do ask for more information.

My DC3 they kept telling me baby was big, then huge, etc, I knew baby was the same as the other two and when she was born she was bang on the national average . I think they guess a lot of the time and they get it wrong.
