Neighbour singing

Mooshamoo · 04/05/2023 00:59

My neighbour has been singing for the last four hours. It is now 1 in the morning. He is singing into a microphone , with accompanying loud backing music. Itbis extremely loud. I feel like crying. He has done this before a couple of times. He goes on and on for hours.

I just rang my brother to cry . He suggested calling the police to make a complaint. But I am their only neighbour. The other house near us is empty.

The man that lives in the house lives with his two brothers. They all look very large tough and intimidating. I'm worried if I call the police, they will know it is me. If I bring the police to their door, I think they might retaliate and make things worse for me.

So I'm stuck. I'm so tired. I feel like crying

@Mooshamoo I understand it is a bit scary to go round.

Do you have any friends or family members who might support you with this?

I don't think that going to the council straight away before you have even spoken to your neighbours is a good idea.

I would ask somebody who is a bit more confident to go and knock on their door with you (or for you) during daylight hours, and politely let them know that it was a bit too loud and too late.

LeefPeeper · 04/05/2023 12:02

you say you are the only neighbour as the house opposite is empty. If you are in a terrace aren’t there other people in the street who the complaint could have come from if you do report him? Why would it be immediately obvious it was you?

No i said that the house on one side of me is empty. I really need to draw a diagram . The houses are not all attached . There are groups of three /four houses, then a lane between them on a long street.

So he is in an end of terrace house. He has no neighbour one side. He is on the right of me. The house on the left of me is empty.

Then there is a small lane before the next four houses. You can't hear the music at those four houses. I walked up and listened.

Then thinking about the houses opposite him , so there are houses opposite him in the street. I've walked across the road. You can't hear the music there. As he plays the music in a shed in his back garden and leaves the door open. Microphone and speakers. So only I can hear it. It booms around my house but no one else's

Idontgiveashitanymore · 04/05/2023 12:55

mrsbyers · 04/05/2023 12:58

AllOfThemWitches · 04/05/2023 13:00

Just checking this isn't about me

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 04/05/2023 13:03

@Mooshamoo - could you invest in a good pair of noise-cancelling headphones, in case he does this again? You could listen to a podcast or audiobook, and that might help you draw your focus away from your incredibly thoughtless and selfish neighbour.

Noise like this, late at night, is antisocial and you have all my sympathy.

Londontown12 · 04/05/2023 13:11

It’s awful but at least he stopped at 2am !
my daughter was kept up til 6am with someone in her street having loud music she said it was like being at a festival she has never heard anything so loud before they called the police they said nothing they cud do ring council lol it’s a joke !
she was so tired that day she trapped her finger in the door ! X

Deathmetal · 04/05/2023 22:15

OP, one of these ”large and tough” men sings Amy winehouse until 2am…he doesn’t really sound stereotypically intimidating. Surely that’s something aggressive men find embarrassing and would take the piss out of?

If you’re scared to knock on the door, could your brother do it? Or you could post a letter. Frankly you could probably record it and post him on social media and embarrass him that way.

ultimately if as you say, you’re the only one impacted by this issue, you need to be brave and do something. The police can’t act as they don’t deal with this shit. The council can eventually remove their sound amplifying equipment but you need to start gathering evidence. However that could take years for the council to act so it’s easier for you to resolve it directly with the neighbours .

girlfriend44 · 04/05/2023 22:23

So many selfish people around. Its hard to know what to do?

And this is exactly why at breaking point a year ago, I stood on top of my kid's slide in the garden and threw a huge water balloon as far as I could over the fence and immediately dived off sideways. I crawled back into the house to cries of "WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?!"
The music/singing cut off straight away and I sat heart thumping for an hour while they trawled the street up and down in groups shouting angrily.
It did make them stop but I'd be too scared to ever do it again.

Whatifitallgoesright · 06/05/2023 03:05

No info I'm sorry. Just wanted to sympathise as you posted at 2am. And might be feeling scared. Especially if you're anxious and now Sods Law you can't sleep even though it's quiet. Hope you are ok.

Good work!

OP I hope you're not awake from more singing.

Runninginhotpants · 06/05/2023 07:56

If he can have a hobby, so can you. or at least make it look that way. His clear love of music has inspired you!
You could approach local primary schools and ask to sit in to record their music lessons. Trumpet would be ok. Better still recorders.
Next, invest in some good quality speakers if you don’t already have them.
Now, whilst he is clearly a night owl and likes to practice his singing at night, your talents take flight just after the sun comes up. Just like a cockerel. So blast those sweet whiny sounds out at at 6am.
do this every morning after he has serenaded you the night before. Hopefully should have the desired behaviour modification result needed. No different to training a dog.

If you wanted to you could even get a cardboard cut out of your choice of instrument to place in the window long term. As a reminder of the wonderful music you are capable of playing. Just in case he forgets.

My goodness. I see that this thread became a news story on the UK mirror website. First time thats happened to me.

I wouldn't have thought a loud neighbour was that newsworthy. Slow news day!

Really? What radio? What did they say?

It was a game, people had to text in and guess what your neighbour was doing loudly in the middle of the night. 😂 Needless to say the guesses weren't very PG

Mooshamoo · 06/05/2023 13:12

And was the correct answer , "that he was murdering Amy Winehouse" :)

There seems to be a lot of people who sing into microphones in their living rooms on tik tok lives to make money. People seem to give more money to the worse singers and I often wonder what it must be like for their neighbours when I come across them.

CarpetSlipper · 06/05/2023 14:20

If you don’t feel like you can complain, some noise cancelling headphones might help to reduce the noise to tolerable levels.

Mooshamoo · 06/05/2023 14:27

Do they work? I haven't tried them before
