Funny feeling has washed over me

Watching TV, multi-tasking scrolling those Facebook videos. This is what I do often. I am prone to anxious spells but haven’t really had any triggers today, did sleep badly last night and have had a virus this weekend.
I had a weird feeling come over me. I can’t describe it well but was just a sense of dread. Googling it and it seems to fit ‘impending doom’. Difficult to say that for sure as I’ve never experienced it before and I guess the term is a very subjective experience

I am a worrier anyway but I’m now worrying extra that I somehow have a sixth sense that something bad is going to happen. Do you think anxiety could also be a culprit? AIBU to be worried about this?

That was the first pregnancy symptom I had 😂

DaaamnYoullDo · 02/05/2023 22:29

Is there something you "should" be anxious about?
I have generalised anxiety disorder and auDHD I get "impending doom" when I'm anxious about something but I've forgotten what. Remembering what it is helps me kind of make it go away.

I have anxiety but get the “doom” feeling worse when I’ve been drinking too much caffeine - it’s a horrible feeling. I hope you feel better soon

Could well be caffeine actually I had more than I usually would today. Thank you

@Newname2323 thank you for your kind reassurance I think I might approach the GP about some low dose meds. Did it make a big difference for you?

This may sound odd, but a feeling of 'impending doom' can be a symptom of an ectopic pregnancy. Could this be a possibility?

TheShade · 02/05/2023 22:42

Not to be the one to make you feel worse (sorry OP) but a strong sense of impending doom is symptom doctors take quite seriously.
If you can’t shake it off after a good sleep or feel unwell I’d consider calling 111.

sing..i promise your neighbours willnt do a thing.you tube yer faves n just sing

quietnightmare · 02/05/2023 22:47

Ooooo yeah I know this feeling. I get the impending doom.

Comes on all of a sudden. Usually when I've stopped doing a task or something. Feels like I have an exam I forgot to revise for. It's really co aiming and bloody horrible. But over the years the more it happens the longer it takes to disappear.

Get to the gp/ mental health nurse/ counsellor and get this nipped in the bud

Rosula · 02/05/2023 22:51

You haven't got a sixth sense about the future.

Alloveragain3 · 02/05/2023 22:53

Could be too much caffeine

BeverlyBrook · 02/05/2023 22:57

Stop looking at Facebook.
No good can come from Facebook.
Watch an actual TV show.
Read an actual book.
Stay away from Facebook.

Guarantee you will feel better within 24 hours of being off it.

HangerLaneGyratorySystem · 02/05/2023 22:58

This happened to me once, I was then late 40s and it was coupled with headaches so my normally very laid back GP sent me to a neurologist. Nothing was discovered, but I know that it can be considered as a portent of some sort of attack or illness like a stroke. If you're talking to your doctor anyway you may as well mention it, but unless you have some physical symptoms too and seeing as you are so young its unlikely to be anything other than anxiety (not that anxiety isn't a serious issue).

I think its great that you reached out to get advice and ideas though.

Deadpalm · 02/05/2023 23:00

If it makes it better, I don't have anxiety and I am nkt a worrier, but I get it sometimes. I think it's air pressure change or something. Impending doom. I think everyone gets it once in a while. It takes a day to pass - a sleep and wake up ok

amoobaa · 02/05/2023 23:13

SapphosRock · 02/05/2023 22:20

Worrying it could be a heart attack, sepsis or epilepsy will not help the anxiety.

@SapphosRock I agree with you. It’s a lot more likely to be anxiety than anything else. However, TLE is worth mentioning because it’s so often misdiagnosed as anxiety and it can be an unnecessary and traumatic experience to be told you have anxiety for years when you don’t.

Newname2323 · 09/05/2023 14:39

@Chocolatebeee sorry for the late response! I'm on 20 mg of citalopram and it made the world of difference. I no longer ruminate and I can easily shrug anxiety/ worries off before I become consumed by them. Obviously it's different for everyone, it took me changing my antidepressant and then the dosage to get where I am, but definitely speak to your GP, even off loading to a doctor helped me loads.

TempName247 · 09/05/2023 14:45

I get this when breastfeeding (sorry probably not helpful!)

TallulahBetty · 09/05/2023 14:50

I get this, and have done since I was a child, every now and then. I am being medicated for anxiety. I also often get the feeling of 'not knowing what I want to do' (can't put it into words' and 'Alice in Wonderland syndrome' a lot - I often wonder if they are all linked

KimberleyClark · 09/05/2023 15:22

How old are you? It’s a common symptom of peri/menopause.

20s. Think it’s anxiety in my case

Thank you everybody I have felt like it most evenings since but there’s definitely a pattern and I’m fine within the day; so I think it’s just anxiety. Really appreciate your comments x

Well it might be 'just anxiety' but at the time it feels really real.
There's a new magazine out, about anxiety. I bought it in m&s today. Really interesting on the biological response the body does.

Have a read, it might help you work it through
