How do you knock a wall down

Basically outside seating area/table and bbq has a thick, curved wall to section it off from the garden and give privacy..I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️We bought the house like this and all the houses in the area are similar (we’re abroad, different thing to U.K. houses)
We want to get rid of the curved wall, so that the seating area isn’t sectioned off and just looks directly out to the garden.
What type of person do you hire to do this, a builder? Is this usually an expensive job or just quick and easy?
Sorry to be thick, just sick of the wall 😅

Buy yourself a sledgehammer and have at it. Cheaper than a builder.

Massive sledge hammer

How handy are you? If you want to save money do if yourself. Get a ladder, some gloves, safety specs, cold chisel or bolster, a club hammer. Aim for knocking a couple of bricks a day off the top. And work your way down. You won't do it in a day. Once you don't need the ladder anymore, you could use a sledgehammer to break the lower part.

Protect any glass or anything nearby. Is the wall attached to your house? Take extra care when removing these bricks and think of how you'll repair the damage left by the wall removal. You can ask a local building company for repair quotes.

It will be hard graft but I think if you chip away at it over days or weeks or even months however long it takes, and stay clean ànd tidy, you can do it.

Or just get a builder in.

I was wondering If Dh could do it, but im
not sure 😬it’s a curved part added onto the wall that is ours and the next door neighbour, I’m just not sure what you’d do to the sticky out/messy part left over

Does the wall protect the BBQ from blowing in your face

NuttyYouSayHmmmmmn · 02/05/2023 22:01

Carefully.

Idontgetitatall · 02/05/2023 22:02

@HappiDaze No, we placed the bbq against it

We could place the bbq against the remaining wall at the side of the house

If you do take it down yourself you need to think about how you get rid of the rubble

If you were in the UK I guess the easiest thing would be to hire a skip, but they are not cheap. And if you opted to take it to the tip yourself you would have to pay to dispose of rubble.

No idea how you go about this where you are but think about it before taking on the job yourself. Or if you opt for a builder check that the cost covers disposal.
