might have brought fish cutlery when I had ordered 2 fish dishes. Only thought about it later ( a bit heathen I suppose) but seems odd that they didn't spontaneously.

fish knives you mean ? maybe they think they're not the thing ie. some people regard them as common

LIZS · 17/02/2008 16:17

possibly but the regular cutlery was hardly chic ! Seemed to lack a little attention ot detail overall.

mmm, can't remember if I had fish knives when we ate at a very expensive fish restaurant last summer

TheFallenMadonna · 17/02/2008 16:21

Maybe they're Betjeman fans...

did they have a cruet set ?

Furball · 17/02/2008 16:23

don't they give stars for facilities available rather than luxury and service?

LIZS · 17/02/2008 16:31

yes they did MAS and I got a rose ! It claims to be a fine dining experience We weren't staying there so didn't avail of the other facilities (health club etc)

what did you eat ? (no chocolate I trust)

LIZS · 17/02/2008 16:40

Scallops, followed by seatrout with crab tortelloni. Was going to have coffee rather than pud (turned down choc fondant )with petit fours but they may have been choccy and woudl have cost £4.50 each, when we only live 5 minutes down the road so came home!

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/02/2008 16:48

Very common - fish cutlery is a Victorian invention so possessing it means that your family's pretensions to grandeur don't go back all that far.
Besides it is redundant now, it was originally used because silver oxidised when in contact with fish, so it prevented the rest of the cutlery from going black. If stainless steel is used then this is hardly an issue.

at the Fallen Madonna (presumably with the big boobies?)
