Went to his house to collect something just now. Didn't know he was in so had a soare key and let myself in.
Suddenly, He slowly crept out from round the back of the porch door and flung his face in front of me. I jumped back in horror and I knew my face looked terrified. He was laughing loads and I told him that he was out of line and shouldn't do that as it really frightened me. He accepted it but not before loads more laughter and taking the piss out of how scared I looked. Aibu to be annoyed?

You let yourself in without checking!

JulieHoney · 02/05/2023 11:57

You let yourself ibnto his house and he did a jumpscare.

That should teach you to knock.

SpecialControlGroup · 02/05/2023 11:57

Yes, and yabu to just let yourself into his house without checking in the first place!

TheLostNights · 02/05/2023 11:58

He said he would be out which is why I used the spare door key

YABU for letting yourself into his house without checking. This one is on you.

TheLostNights · 02/05/2023 11:58

He said he would be out which is why I used the spare door key

But you said you didn't know if he would be in?

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 02/05/2023 12:02

So he give you a fright, thought it was funny and now you're pissed off?

Mountain, molehill

TheLostNights · 02/05/2023 12:02

Yes, because he had previously said he was not going to be in which is why I didn't know he was actually there.

Meh it's just a prank and I couldn't get worked up about it

purplecorkheart · 02/05/2023 12:08

It was a childish prank that was not particularly funny but I would not get too worked up about it.

In future though ring the doorbell and leave it a minute or so before using the key to let yourself in even if you think they are going to be out.

MrsPoliportsGoose · 02/05/2023 12:11

Lighten up. You entered his house without checking.
Standard brotherly prank.

Newusernameaug · 02/05/2023 12:15

I’m spot on this, because I had undiagnosed PTSD for years and a scare like this could take my nervous systems days to unwind from, I’d definitely be jumpy for the rest of the day.

I personally don’t find this humour funny despite also being told I need to lighten up…. I don’t think it’s a joke if both parties don’t find it funny?

So I’d be pissed

Newusernameaug · 02/05/2023 12:15

How come we so often here that a joke is only a joke if all parties find it funny - but scaring a lone woman is funny because it’s a ‘prank’?

MichelleScarn · 02/05/2023 12:19

Why did you need to go round when you thought he wouldn't be in, or even do a polite knock check first?
Think you're being overly dramatic.

ShimmeringShirts · 02/05/2023 12:35

This is standard behaviour in my family, we scare the crap out of each other and all laugh. Our youngest DB doesn’t like being scared though so we wouldn’t do it to him or anyone else who disliked being scared/just didn’t find it funny

Skybluepinky · 02/05/2023 13:07

His place and u r moaning, very over dramatic!

GalileoHumpkins · 02/05/2023 13:10

He flung his face in front of you, like literally threw it?

Ponoka7 · 02/05/2023 13:14

Look up the definition of flung.

I suppose it's something that happens between siblings. I instinctively hit out, so that cures anyone of doing that to me. As long as he wouldn't do it again, I'd just let it go. You should always check if someone is in.
