To go to Hospital - pregnant.

This morning at 8am I experienced almost fainting. I had to hold on to the kitchen sides stop myself and get myself lying down before I fainted. I had ringing in my ears and broke into a hot sweat, I also could see the capillaries in my eyes. I've never experienced this before. I'm 21 weeks pregnant. It's my second pregnancy.

I rang the midwife advice line and was told this is quite common, and probably because I hadn't eaten yet. She didn't seem concerned. I've since eaten and drank plenty, but I am still feeling very hot and dizzy when I stand up and move around, for instance walking up and down the stairs. I'm getting concerned that this is ongoing.

I know nobody can say / know for sure, but should I go to hospital in these circumstances? The midwife didn't seem concerned earlier on the phone and I don't want to waste their time. Has anyone experienced this in their pregnancy before?

The GP has given me an appointment for tomorrow morning...

In the last 20 minutes I've started to feeling tightness in my chest and short of breath, so really feel like I should be checked out today. I'm going to give the Pregnancy Unit a call.

Definitely push to be seen today OP, better safe than sorry.

I would go to A&E given your latest update

SteveBuscemisRheumyEye · 02/05/2023 15:17

Gosh, that sounds frightening. Glad you're getting medical attention.

hotcrossmummie · 02/05/2023 21:42

@Lapro are you ok??

JeepersCreeperrs · 02/05/2023 21:58

Hope you’re ok OP.

slowquickstep · 02/05/2023 22:11

Hope you are ok

ThinksALot · 02/05/2023 22:22

I hope you're doing okay after your latest update and you've been seen by a medical professional.

I had a similar turn at 22 weeks pregnant. I felt really faint, hot, sweaty and I had strange vision. I saw the GP the next day and I had high blood pressure. Urine was clear. Within a week urine was full of protein and I was diagnosed with severe early onset pre-eclampsia (2nd pregnancy too). All ended up well in the end but please do get checked out.

I experienced this around the same gestation in my first and only pregnancy. I was out walking, had ringing in my ears, got unbearably hot (it was January and felt like it) and my vision started going black from around the edges. I knew I couldn't make it home so I just sat on the floor and I think I fainted briefly. I was also told it was common and I felt a lot better after food and a nap, but if it had happened again I definitely would've gone to hospital.

First thing I thought was high bp. Hope you're ok.

OhwhyOY · 02/05/2023 22:33

Sounds like high BP/pre-eclampsia as others have said. Hope you're OK, these things are scary even if it turns out to be nothing.

Panda8383 · 02/05/2023 22:37

Did you managed to get checked out? Hope all ok x

MumApril1990 · 02/05/2023 22:55

I had this with pregnancy anaemia. They actually said my iron wasn’t low enough to need the prescription tablets but I could barely stand up sometimes I was so low energy, I think their charts are rubbish tbh.

Cm078 · 02/05/2023 23:05

I had this a couple of times in my first pregnancy. I was at work one time (in a hospital) and did all my obs and my blood sugar was low. So everytime it happened I had to have a biscuit or something. I also had pregnancy anemia. It did pass though after half hour or so, if yours isn't passing I'd definitely get checked out.
Hope all is ok
