To feel sad by this behaviour from friend?

It was my birthday a few days ago and I arranged to go out with three friends yesterday for a bottomless brunch.

As part of the brunch you have a magician come over and yeah it is a bit cheesy but whatever. At the point he came over one friend was outside having a smoke and the other two just completely ignored him - carried on talking and had their back to him.

So it was just me and I didn’t want him to feel bad so I was enthusiastic but he clearly did feel bad and left our table very quickly. So it annoyed me they’d made him feel shit but also that they did that to me … that it was my birthday and they had such a lack of respect.

Sorry I’m not a “it’s my birthday so it’s all about me” type person but it would be nice if friends had made the effort to not do that.

Yeah they were very rude.

That's incredibly rude. It was your birthday so they should have watched his magic then carried on chatting.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 30/04/2023 20:19

Things like this make me really cringe. I’d be outside and I don’t smoke.

SheSaidHummingbird · 30/04/2023 20:50

They may have been embarrassed. I know I would be mortified by this and would've make any excuse to not be a part of this.

Arginalia · 30/04/2023 20:52

They could have showed polite interest even if they didn't want to join in. YANBU.

Which type of pub has a magician go around the tables?!

seems like a fantasy to me (not mine btw 🤣🤣)

I would have been cringing fit to rupture myself but, like you, I would have tried to put a good face on it. I think they were rude.
