That keeping still does not stop you being stung by wasps

I always run away and the two people I know that have stayed still have both been stung! Obviously very small sample size but would be interesting to hear stories.

I'm a sitter and have never been stung.

What annoys me more is the people who do run, scream and flail their arms around are the ones who have now made my child scared of wasps and do the same when I was trying to teach him to be calm and stay still.

I've never been stung. I tend to gently swipe them away.
I don't think people genuinely think you will get stung if you run off screaming, I always felt people say that because it's annoying when someone has a huge screaming fit at the sight of a wasp.

I don't think it matters what you do.
I stay still and have been stung three times, one time the wasp just landed on my completely still leg and instantly stung me.
DC1 and DC3 are flappers and have both been stung several times but also caused themselves injury while running from a wasp.

Bees not wasps. I was stung 36 times on the head when I was 11. Swarm gone nuts.

Misses point of thread but thinks it’s a slightly interesting anecdote with the sting link

Just to help people tell the difference between bees and wasps:

That keeping still does not stop you being stung by wasps
Procrastination4 · 21/08/2023 16:22

I stay still and haven’t been stung.

We went on a particularly waspy camping trip last summer where I repeatedly told DD not to panic and remain calm

One of the stripy bastards stung me on the arm with no provocation at all. The only thing that has hurt more in terms of short term intensity was a jellyfish sting
