Why am I like this? Disgusting car

StupidFaces · 28/04/2023 07:26

I’ve always been quite a scruffy person when it comes to housework etc but in the past few years I have learnt to keep my house relatively clean and tidy.

My car however is totally disgusting. Empty water bottles everywhere, crisp packets, yogurt pots, chip wrappers, odd shoes, used tissues, random paperwork … there is nowhere to sit other than the drivers seat. It stinks.

A few weeks ago I had to give someone a lift unexpectedly and I was embarrassed - there was even a used nappy on the floor in the back. She opened the passenger door and gasped. I told her to just Chuck everything into the back but I was mortified. I gave it a proper good clean after that, got rid of all the rubbish, vacuumed it, put an air freshener up … a week later it was back to normal.

I don’t even know how it gets so bad. Am I just a lazy sod? I don’t even seem to see it until someone else needs to get into it (or DH uses it and complains about the state of it)

I don’t have kids, that makes it even worse! It’s just me!

The nappy was my granddaughters who I had taken out for the day a week earlier (it was wet nappy, not poo)

So you drive your granddaughter about in a dirty, filthy car full of crap?

What do her parents think?

StrawberryWater · 28/04/2023 16:59

I think it’s easy enough to forget a nappy for an hour or two but days or even a week? Fucking grim. Just pure laziness.

Exactly! Thank you!

the over reaction and anger on here is hilarious 😂

You know you're car is skanky because you were embarrassed to give someone a lift in it. Then you posted on here.

So either learn to clear it out or carry on driving a refuse bin. (But I wouldn't want my DGC in it.)

Your choice.

Yeah...it's really not overreacting to think it's disgusting to leave a wee-soaked nappy in your car for a week 🙄

RampantIvy · 28/04/2023 17:11

Your lack of awareness of what is acceptable is "hilarious"

OP this made me cry- laughing, so funny.
As PPs have suggested put s plastic bag in the car or get a car bin.

StupidFaces · 28/04/2023 17:25

I’m just going to buy a new car, this one is beyond help 😂

You might be op, but not the car..😅

Schabernacker · 28/04/2023 17:31

@StupidFaces Missing the point a bit, but how did you manage to learn to keep your house tidy? This is what I need to know before I even start worrying about my car.

Abergale · 28/04/2023 17:34

Just have a plastic bag in boot and shove rubbish in at end of day or stop eating in your car

DrManhattan · 28/04/2023 17:46

Disgusting. Way beyond scruffy.

Floralnomad · 28/04/2023 17:48

Just clean it and then make sure you take the rubbish in every time you use it . It sounds absolutely disgusting .

The outrage and disgust at your mucky car on this thread is hilarious.

Mine's a skip on wheels. Solidarity sister. 😁

So was mine till it went for it's mot and then it got its yearly clean out. Although I'm all fairness the majority of mine was actually PPE (unused)

DiscoBeat · 28/04/2023 18:02

Yoghurt pots! How do you eat yoghurt in the car?

DiscoBeat · 28/04/2023 18:04

Oh god I didn't see the nappy bit! OP that's gross! Just take everything out whenever you leave the car - maybe keep a roll of freezer bags in there so you can always have a bag to hand?

AngeloMysterioso · 28/04/2023 18:14

Buy a roll of small bin bags with handles. Keep them in your glove compartment.

Loop one over your handbrake so it sits between the back footwells.

When it’s full, take it out & throw in the wheelie bin. Replace with fresh one from roll in glove compartment.

I have a 16 month old and a 3 and a half year old. If I didn’t do this my car would look like a rubbish tip.

It's not just from A to B though is it (and depending on where your going A to be can be a bloody long journey), it's also C while your there and then B to A back.

Maybe you are a lady who lunches type that drives for pleasure can sit around in a coffee shop or goes to friends houses where your plied with tea etc... but for most people running around doing work or errands you either take a drinks bottle with you or have to buy something when out.

Frankly when I have been on the go since 8am especially on a warm sunny day I do tend to get a touch thirsty but don't feel like chugging an entire 500ml bottle of evian outside of Asda after the weekly shop between check out and car before jumping to go do the school run.

It makes much more sense just to plop it in the hole in the car especially for holding your drink.

I'm on the road at 7.30am, I work full time.
If I were desperate for hydration I could stop at a garage. I've never been desperate!

Vitriolinsanity · 28/04/2023 19:59

Nope this is just slovenly. I'm not a clean freak but your car sounds like a fucking pigsty. I'd have been mortified to give someone a lift with that level of filth.

maddening · 28/04/2023 20:11

Keep a carrier bag as a bin bag in the front passenger foot well perhaps?

Do you work full time driving?

or are you driving 30 minute or so to work to sit in an office/home/building with a kitchen/vending machine etc... where you can get drinks? (in which case working 'full time' has fuck all to do with anything).

I don't believe for one second you work full time from 7.30am everyday driving place to place constantly and have NEVER needed a drink in that time (you would be a bloody medical marvel).

I also don't believe that if you did once in your dehydrated life decide you need one you would pull up at a garage and chug a full bottle like a frat boy so as not to put it in your car.

This is such a weird thing to big up and lie about. 'I don't ever need to drink, I can exist on thin air yet I'm never thirsty' sounds like the bullshittery brag of a 12 year old not an adult. I mean what are you... a camel?

lljkk · 29/04/2023 12:12

Most people have minging cars. That amuses me. My home is scruffy & my car is actually better. Get it tidied up & keep it that way, remove rubbish each and every time you get out.

wandawaves · 29/04/2023 12:25

My old car used to get in a similar state (minus the nappy), and I just couldn't seem to keep on top of it. I tried a car bin/bin bags but forgot to use them. Plus there was still the issue of kids socks, jackets, shoes, socks, drink bottles, bowls, socks, lunch boxes, oh and did I mention the socks? 😆
I now have a new car, and I just take everything out every time. Turns out it's really not that hard, it's just a matter if making it habit to grab everything.

Grumpypotamus · 29/04/2023 13:28

😂😂

Shoelacesundone · 29/04/2023 13:33

I'm like you OP. My car is gross.

I'm not evil or deranged.

Glad to meet you anyway. Obviously I can't give you any tips but just wanted to say you're not the only one and it doesn't mean any deep flaws exist in you. You just have a very messy car.

I think if it's not harming anyone just relax about it.

You could buy a cheap kitchen bin and put it in the passenger seat then put everything in there.

Of course you'll probably then just drive round with a bin full of stunky rubbish but you could hide it in the boot if you have to give someone a lift.

I work in an office outside the home. I drive to and from work daily. I drive to my family, inlawa etc I don't have bottles of water in the car.
