Just this ^
Am I the only one that despairs every morning at the thought of what to make for tea that night.

I couldn't do that. Having the same meal 2/3 times in a week would really put me off that dish - ans I don't think my husband would like it either.
On holiday we generally do a mix of self catering and eating out. I will occasionally do a mince/onion/tomato base and split it over two meals, but not consecutive ones.

We batch cook but only ever if it's freezable (so wouldn't do lasagne but would do the bolognaise sauce) - I agree that I wouldn't want to eat the same thing two days in a row but I absolutely love being able to pull something out of the freezer in a 'and here's one I made earlier!' way.

I used to know a woman who, in her house, had a menu like it was school dinners. Every Monday was sausage and mash day, every Tuesday was spag Bol day and so on. Some days when I just cannot be arsed I think about her. I wouldn’t do it because I think it would feel so restrictive, but it must save you so so much time.

My mum did this growing up

Still feels weird having pasta on a day which isn't a Tuesday

I have found ready made but healthy things helpful, for example the pre-baked potatoes that go in the microwave. Also cooked salmon pieces. Bit more expensive though also things like prepacked salads and bits, less preparation some days.

We have a box of about 30 index cards in the kitchen, with one meal - and all the required ingredients - on each. Every 10 days or so I pull out the front 10 cards, write the names of the meals on a list on the fridge, add all the ingredients onto the ongoing shopping list that's also on the fridge, and put the 10 cards at the back of the box. Once I've done the shop all I need to do every day is look at the list of meals, and choose which one I feel like making/eating.

I feel incredibly lucky to be able to have the choice of what to eat but yes, trying to think what to make is still a real headache.

This is one of my favourite sites for ideas. www.kitchensanctuary.com/recipe-index-2/

Yea, because you decide every day! I do 2-week meal plan and shop; then don’t have to think about it

FelicityFlops · 28/04/2023 13:04

No, I don't think that is the worst thing at all.
However, I live in a country where, traditionally, the main meal of the day is lunch, so I cook and eat lunch. When I am working (most from home) it could be a salad or fish fingers, spinach and potatoes with home-made tartare sauce or a baked potato and something or dhal. If I have time I sometimes go out for lunch.
Otherwise it is whatever is seasonal and local, which, at present, means lots of asparagus. I am not a huge meat eater, but a default Saturday lunch is often sausages, mash and whatever vegetables are good.
I tend not to eat in the evenings when at home and rarely when away, unless it is a special occasion or I am meeting up with friends or colleagues.

One of the joys of Asperger’s is that we eat the same thing every day for weeks and then become sick of the thing and move onto something else (that part is a bit of a pain because I can’t always think what to move on to!).

For me it’s salmon and veg with teriyaki sauce and microwave rice.
For my son it’s chicken (same pan) with teriyaki sauce and microwave rice.
Sometimes we’re very adventurous and have rice noodles🙂.

I used to do different things every night, but 3 kids in I'm now basically running like school dinners:
Monday - pasta night
Taco Tuesday (sometimes it is burritos or enchiladas but tortilla based)
Wednesday - freezer food due to after school clubs
Thursday - sausage and something
Friday - pizza night
Saturday - wildcard
Sunday - roast.

Everyone picks a meal before I do shopping list, other 3 days are easy meals like jacket pots, egg on toast, homemade pizza etc. I do the shopping on my day off. You cook the meal you pick... so we all get a turn. The other 3 nights are busy so everyone cooks for themselves when they are hungry. I tend to cook for me and dd on those nights as we are rushing. I put my foot down early on with DH and we got the kids involved from a young age. I'm nobodies house elf and that includes mealtimes!

Though I will add, this has cost me a fortune in appliances to keep them all interested. I have recently purchased a waffle maker and a griddle thing. Oh it gets creative.
