Help! What is this rash? *pictures attached*

Hi! Really hoping someone can help as I’m a bit unsure and don’t know whether to be worried or not.

I noticed a small rash today and I don’t know where it’s from. It’s like lots of little red pin pricks but they’re not raised or spotty, it’s underneath the skin but very small and like pins. It’s not purple it’s just like red dots. I’ll post a photo below but it’s not coming up very clearly in it, apologies.

it started out as a tiny cluster or 3/4 of the pin pricks on my lower arm and has spread slightly onto my hand and up my arm but only slightly and it doesn’t seem to be spreading anymore. It’s not getting better or going away either. It’s not on my other arm/chest/anywhere else.

I haven’t used any products specifically on my arm and I only used the same face wash in the shower that I always use and that was earlier this morning. I don’t have any chemical skin allergies either (I recently had a skin patch test done for allergies at the hospital a few months ago and had no reactions at all) but I do have eczema although not usually on my arms and it doesn’t usually look like this. The skin isn’t dry or sore at all it’s just the red pin pricks.

I had a blood test around 8 weeks ago as I was really tired all the time and having bad headaches and everything was normal with that too. I feel ok today

does anyone know what this could be and how I could get rid of it?

im 24 so not menopausal and I’m definitely not pregnant either

TIA 🙂

ITP doesn’t show up on the arm. I don’t think this is urgent OP.

i have petechiae all over and my GP ran bloods which were fine and that was the end of it. Had them years.

it is bad news if you’re not well - points towards meningitis or sepsis but it doesn’t look like this and not just on your arm.

i had something similar when I removed a piece of tape from a blood test poorly and pulled the skin. My sister gets it on her face and neck when she vomits and I’ve had it on my leg from scratching and pulling blood tk the surface.

the likelihood is you’ve done something similar.

unless it spreads or you get more symptoms, I’d give it until after the weekend to give it a chance to fade before seeing your GP but it’s your call.

ah that’s great :) I’ll give it some time to see if it goes. I definitely didn’t scratch or bump it but I could have injured it without realising I suppose! I’ll give it longer to get better, thanks :)

My DD didn't just have the rash, she'd ignored that for a few days. She then started to get massive bruises all over her body. She looked like she'd been beaten up. That's when she went to her GP.

twentyfour2498 · 27/04/2023 17:44

this is probably a stupid question but how long should I expect it to last before it disappears? its not gone yet although doesn't look any worse, there's maybe a few extra spots but nothing significantly worse

bumping my last message x

If it's just bloodspots under the skin for a non serious reason they should fade in two or three days I think, and be gone in a week or so....?

ittakes2 · 27/04/2023 19:37

It’s a non blanching blood spot - my son gets them I think you should call 111 as you are not meant to be getting them it’s usually a sign something is not right - unless you are someone who gets them regularly (like my son) and drs have done blood tests to check you are ok.

strawberriesarenot · 27/04/2023 19:39

Have you done a covid test?
I had a petechial rash just like that with covid a few weeks ago.

WhisperingAutistic · 27/04/2023 19:41

You should ask for a blood test. If there is anything wrong with your platelets, they can check them.
I have ITP and can get petechiae randomly. I get it on my arms if I've carried a heavy bag on that side or if I've worn a top with tight elastic.

JeepersCreeperrs · 27/04/2023 19:49

Like I say, I’d give it the weekend.

twentyfour2498 · 27/04/2023 20:14

Yeah done a Covid test, negative thankfully!

Great I’ll give it a week or so to disappear. Think I just got myself worried about itching! It’s good to remember these things can be harmless (thanks Dr Google for making it much scarier than it needed to be!!)

Just thought I’d post a little update. It’s still on my arm but hasn’t worsened at all in that area. But I’ve noticed it’s started very slightly on my left foot. It’s very small and faint but definitely wasn’t there this morning, although it’s not as bad as on my arm - I’ll post a photo below

Not a great photo again sorry- it’s very faint and not many dots but it’s definitely there in real life

As it's spreading i think you need to get checked out. Give 111 a ring? (or do the online assessment?)

annoyingly I tried to get through to NHS 24 and couldn't, it must be particularly busy today!

Its a good sign that its only very very mild on my foot, isn't it? and that it hasn't worsened any on my arm?

OP posts:
twentyfour2498 · 28/04/2023 16:28

still haven't been able to get through.
can't decide if im worrying unnecessarily about a non issue since the spots on my foot are tiny and very very mild, or if I should be slightly more worried about it since its technically spread. Argh!

twentyfour2498 · 28/04/2023 17:46

Sorry- slightly anxious bump. I don’t normally have any type of health anxiety and I never go to the doctors or hospital for anything but for some reason I’ve got myself a bit worried about this!

OP posts:
tobi21 · 28/04/2023 17:50

ring 111

PinkLemonadee · 28/04/2023 17:58

Use the online assessment tool. The fact it's spreading would worry me. It is probably nothing but, especially going into a bank holiday weekend, I'd want to be checked over.

Argh, I forgot Monday is a bank holiday too. I tried the online nhs 24 but it said it’s only available in England and took me to the NHS 24 site for Scotland which just had information about the number and advice on the website. I’ll keep persevering with trying to get through

thank you! I haven't had any more spots so feel a bit reassured by that. it seems to have settled

You are not meant to get blood spot rashes on your body. When my son gets blood spot rashes the first thing they do is they do a urine test to check for blood in his urine because that could mean his body is attacking his kidneys. If you have not seen someone - even a chemist - I really think you need to.

WhisperingAutistic · 29/04/2023 09:36

OP honestly, this really isn't normal. You need a blood test.
