To send DC in on Strike Days?

I have 2 children, 8 and 10 at the same school. A few classes are open including there's. A friend has told me she keeps her children off whether their class is open or not. I support the strikes and wonder if it supports teachers more if I don't send my kids in?

If you don't send them in aren't they marked as having unauthorized absence?

Also not all teachers are in the same union.

FroggoDoggos · 27/04/2023 08:04

Children should be able to see their friends, even if they aren't doing school work.

Oysterbabe · 27/04/2023 08:04

Why would you do that if their classes are open, don't you care about their education?
How will keeping them off support the strikes? Do you think the government will hear about it and change their mind?

FourTeaFallOut · 27/04/2023 08:06

If their teacher is in school then you should send your children in. They've missed enough school without you going above and beyond the strike restrictions.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 27/04/2023 08:06

God no- on the odd strike day where the class is open my child’s in. I don’t get the logic-I support all the strikes but I’ll still seek medical attention if needed when the drs are striking.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 27/04/2023 08:06

Our school specify in the letters that only children in closed classes should be off. Send your kids in.

Yerroblemom1923 · 27/04/2023 08:08

Why would you keep your children off school if school is open????
Sounds like madness! Surely people want their kids educated etc. And if their primary school age kids are at home how do they get any work done? Even if they don't have a job surely 6 hours of peace and quiet isn't something most parents would easily give up?!
Genuinely baffled.

IglesiasPiggl · 27/04/2023 08:11

Not all teachers are in a union. Keeping your children off when their class is open has no effect whatsoever.

angiec89 · 27/04/2023 08:15

I'm sending DS in as he's in year 11, but DD is home. I don't think it's wrong to do either it just depends on your situation

SparkyBlue · 27/04/2023 08:23

If their class is open I'd send them in. It wouldn't enter my head not to. I can imagine if one childs class is open and another siblings class closed then logistically people might find it handier to keep them both off and drop them to the minder

Beautiful3 · 27/04/2023 08:24

No, you send them to school if they're open.

DelurkingAJ · 27/04/2023 08:26

Infants closed here and Juniors open. Juniors have been entirely clear that it’s a normal school day and any absence (other than illness etc!) is unauthorised.

Schabernacker · 27/04/2023 08:26

Theirs, not "there's". I would be sending my children to school in case they miss an English grammar lesson.

MaltedCow · 27/04/2023 08:30

I'd be sending them in, it isn't making any kind of stance to government keeping them off it'll just impact their attendance. My children's school has opened for all throughout every strike, doesn't mean that I don't support the striking teachers I back them fully but the provision has been there for my children with their regular teachers so they've continued as usual.

Tinkerbyebye · 27/04/2023 08:54

Send them in

Srin · 27/04/2023 08:57

Valuing your children’s education is the best way you can support teachers. If their class is open, send them in.

BoattoBolivia · 27/04/2023 09:05

Teacher here, in a non- striking union. Send them in. We won't know why they're not in so, although I understand your reasoning, it won't make any difference to anyone except your DC and you. Thank you for the supportive vibes though ☺️
