To find Space and Astronauts really boring

PattyDuckface · 26/04/2023 22:10

Just that really. In my workplace there is a bunch of influential people who are really excited about Space and the potential of exploration, the idea of going there blows their mind and there's a lot of energy and excitement about it. If you don't like it then you probably won't be thought of as intelligent or interesting.

Unfortunately for my career I just couldn't care less. I have tried to care but it gives me that cold, bored, uneasy feeling that I used to get on a Sunday evening.

I’m with you OP. I like science but space bores me.

QueSyrahSyrah · 26/04/2023 22:14

@PattyDuckface I don't care either, not remotely interested.

I'd rather the scientists spent their time working on creating a printer or a photocopier that just does its job consistently for any period of time without needing constant TLC. Much more beneficial for my life overall than space travel. Grin

SkaneTos · 26/04/2023 22:16

I understand. I'm not really that interested in space and astronauts either. I don't think it's boring, but I'm not super interested in it. But I have a family member who is an astronomer, so I get to hear quite a lot about astronomy from him. I can certainly make conversation about it, from hearing about it for many years! And I'm happy to ask him about his research.

the80sweregreat · 26/04/2023 22:18

I liked the prof Brian Cox programmes about space and the Mars rover on bbc two , but I don't understand it all and it is a huge subject to try and grasp. He makes it a bit easier to understand, but I still find it hard.
It's not something I have a big interest though in tbh, mostly because I was rubbish at science at school and just wasn't interested enough.
How they get things like the Mars Rover to work is amazing though

AutumnCrow · 26/04/2023 22:19

I used to feel like this when I worked at NASA.

PattyDuckface · 26/04/2023 22:20

@AutumnCrow oh, you've made me laugh so much it's going to be hard to fall asleep

OP posts:
WhyCantYourPartnerDoIt · 26/04/2023 22:21

Well, maybe they find you boring too.

PattyDuckface · 26/04/2023 22:23

What, Space finds me boring?
Astronauts definitely do.

I’m slightly embarrassed to admit that I really don’t like the David Attenborough programmes. I mean I’m glad all that nature is out there and I get it’s really important that we look after it and they’re well made and that but, nah can’t watch it for an hour. 🤷🏽‍♀️

emptythelitterbox · 26/04/2023 22:28

What would you want to talk about?

Giggorata · 26/04/2023 22:31

I get so excited about space that I could rival that guy on the Fast Show, isn't it brilliaaaaaaaaant, but I literally can't listen to the weather forecast all the way through without my mind wandering, it's a family joke.

PurpleParrotfish · 26/04/2023 22:32

Some of it I do find amazing, like actually being able to see photos of the surface of Mars or of far away galaxies. But the idea that sending humans into space is a big important thing for the future of the human race? It just seems so far-fetched and trivial compared to stopping the destruction we’re wreaking on this planet which actually can currently support life in millions of forms across complex and fragile ecosystems.

Elon Musk is a twat and his space twattery is just one reason why.

Epic 🤣

TwoMonthsOff · 26/04/2023 22:35

I find how many pyjama changes per week fascinating …..on the other hand

Yes this is my feeling too. The huge amounts of money spent I. Space exploration could be put in to curing cancer, or as you say, saving this planet.

My husband says if I’d lived centuries ago I’d have been the one saying the earth is flat and what’s the point in sailing off to discover other countries 😂

bamboonights · 26/04/2023 22:36

Yep. space, sci-fi, even technology bores me rigid.

lucya66 · 26/04/2023 22:43

I am not interested in it personally, but I’m pleased some people are and they’re exploring it.

i used to dislike Elon musk but listening to him on joe rogan helped me understand him and appreciate him more. He reckons it’s inevitable that one day human life won’t be able to continue on earth (extinction event like dinosaurs or our own self destruction) and that the sensible thing to do is to pursue establishing human life off planet. He doesn’t think in his life time, but he has the resources to innovate so it can one day be possible. Even if it’s not needed for a million years.

don’t get me wrong, I also think resources should be focused on other earthly issues too, alongside it. but I like to know that someone’s interested in spacey stuff.

MonsterFiesta · 26/04/2023 22:44

YANBU in that, if you find something boring you find something boring and that’s fine.

I personally can’t imagine finding space and space exploration boring though. I mean, it’s 99.99999999+% of everything that exists

TheKobayashiMaru · 26/04/2023 22:48

I'm exceptionally interested in space etc. If you are not, so what. I glaze over when anyone around me talks about football. I can't imagine how anything could induce one to like it, but each to their own. Bit like space and space exploration, some love it, does nothing for others.

Leavingonapetjlane · 26/04/2023 22:53

I am not particularly moved by space, but my partner is, and he convinced me to watch the recent series "For All Mankind" - and my goodness I loved it! It made me realise why space travel is so fascinating, and so important and so full of potential.

tsmainsqueeze · 26/04/2023 22:55

Me too , i am in absolute awe when looking at an amazing full moon and a sky full of twinkling stars ,but space and astronauts and space travel and everything about it bores the crap out of me.
All that money wasted compared to all the things it could be spent on instead.

Rayn22 · 26/04/2023 22:59

I am the opposite! Hate all science subjects but for some reason fascinated by space. The vastness and what is out there.

Stratusinium · 26/04/2023 23:03

I used to find space interesting, I actually find it bleak nowadays though. Just makes me think of the brutality and indifference of nature and the universe.

I‘ve been a bit like this since the pandemic, too much time to think perhaps. 🤷🏻

It is fine not to be interested, but that is not the same thing as not caring - planetary defense is actually rather more important and relevant to you than whether the phoptocopier works or not, that is the detection and defence against extinction-level asteroid strikes, which is what much of space exploration and observation is geared towards

there is nothing more important - but it is fine not to be personally interested, but there is nothing more important to spend money on
