Step kids and pjs TMI

Sorry if this is too much information
but I have 2 teenage step kids, boy and girl, & recently DH and I had our first baby together.
cant remember how it started, but came up in conversation how the step kids don’t wear underwear with pyjamas and I said oh but baby will.
DH is totally against this saying it’s more hygienic to let the air down there etc as less risk of infection. I get that part so I’m not against that in itself.
its more that the step kids wear their pyjama bottoms several times before washing. I remember when they were younger that they would change pyjamas weekly buuuuuut- the boy has never been good at wiping his butt! I mean wearing skid mark pyjamas all week?!
to be honest he’s still not that great at wiping…
and the girl has discharge the past couple years. I thought going commando would only make sense if washing pyjamas every day?
… sooooo
AIBU to think this is gross or am I missing something ?
sorry for tmi

Much healthier to have some time without underwear. 100%.

But.

Skid marks on anything means wash time.

Mummynew08 · 25/04/2023 19:27

Baggy underwear (that gets changed morning and evening) is the best of both worlds and is what everyone in my household does - man, woman and potty-trained child.

Yanbu OP.

I wear pants to bed, rightly or wrongly. I would say it's perfectly normal for little kids to wear pjs with nothing else but as they get older they either need to wear pants or wash the pjs more often. I can't imagine wanting to re-wear clothing or nightmare with visible bodily detritus on them Envy

Newnamenewname109870 · 25/04/2023 19:27

Yeah it’s really not good to wear underwear all the time. More hygienic than sleeping naked right? Yeah pjs can be gross.

Twillow · 25/04/2023 19:28

As long as your undies are cotton and not plastic, air will still get to your bits! My family have always been pants-under-pjs people - you wahs your pants every day nut you don't want to be washing your pjs every day, do you - and without pants putting them back on is just like wearing dirty knickers 😱

mainsfed · 25/04/2023 19:28

YANBU, underwear is a must.

But don’t take on his kids too, worry about your baby. Let him sort them.

Allmarbleslost · 25/04/2023 19:30

Yanbu. I've always worn pants under my pyjamas and my fanny hasn't fallen off through lack of air 🤔

whatatool · 25/04/2023 19:32

I'm panicking that being a no pants under pjs person makes me weirdo!

Merryoldgoat · 25/04/2023 19:32

Sure.

Precipice · 25/04/2023 19:34

There shouldn't be skid marks on any clothing. That's the issue. What they wear for pyjamas is not.

PicaK · 25/04/2023 19:35

I'd never wear pants with PJs - too restrictive - but I wouldn't wear PJs twice in a row without washing.

Threebeanburrito · 25/04/2023 19:35

Personally I only wear knickers under pyjamas if I'm on my period. I have the eco friendly period pants and sleep in them.
My son is 7 and doesn't wear underwear with pyjamas but I would wash them if he had skid marks!

Dogscanteatonions · 25/04/2023 19:37

Alrighty.

Ffsmakeitstop · 25/04/2023 19:41

Someone needs to teach them personal hygiene. I never wore pants under nightwear until I started having bladder issues (old lady) and washed them as necessary certainly not after every wear. DH just wears pants to bed changed every day.

CurlewKate · 25/04/2023 19:44

If he's a teenager he should be able to wipe his bottom. His dad needs to do something about it.

ChaoticNoodle · 25/04/2023 19:53

Your genitals don't have lungs, they don't need to be aired out.

Where do these weird myths come from?!

Everydayimhuffling · 25/04/2023 19:53

It's much better for the health of your body to wear just pyjamas. If you feel their pyjamas are dirty then wash them more. 3-4 days is fine for pyjamas generally, so 2 pairs per week.

Also, a teenager should be able to wipe properly. If he needs to make the time but can do it, a stint of washing his own pants might help...

Stephhh87 · 25/04/2023 21:19

So I guess for me I always thought it’s like re wearing underwear… guess it depends on the pyjamas too? My step kids have always worn the snug fit ones..
I guess it’s ok for little ones who don’t dirty their pyjamas…
I would just want to was pjs every day if baby doesn’t wear underwear… I mean to be fair I do at the moment anyway!
buuuuuut I’ll probably still have LO wearing underwear! Think my step kids pjs have freaked me out too much lol

Fair point. I totally agree he should do his own laundry!

Lol. DH says it reduces risk of infection. Which i have heard before. But I’ve always worn underwear and never had an infection…
if LO ends up with infection and the dr says it’s from wearing underwear to bed then I guess we will have to address that! (But then I’ll be washing pjs every day lol)
