AIBU to ask for help applying for jobs online?

Hi there,

I'm struggling to apply for jobs online - I send application after application and hear nothing back. For context:

  • I have ten years' experience doing what I do (Marketing/brand/Comms related. Not massively niche - when you Google jobs, there are plenty. Albeit mainly with lower salaries)
  • I'm a director at the company I work at, so looking for the same salary (£60k +)
  • I'm near a major UK city (not London) and happy to commute two or three times a week
  • I'm tailoring my CV and cover letter to each application
  • my CV is mainly results-based (eg, 'did X piece of work which won XYZ industry award' rather than describing day to day duties
  • I also have an 'in a nutshell' section up top with my professional bio in brief

Am I missing something? It's soul-destroying. Each application takes so long and every employer wants something different - one's an online form, another a CV.

Any help gratefully received!

I always apply using LinkedIn much easier. Particularly for creative jobs. Is your profile topnotch as that's where most people will go look once they have your CV.

Put your resume on LinkedIn and mark yourself as 'actively looking for work'

They'll be hounding you

Use buzzwords too, I.e Brand Manager or whatever

Ahh brilliant, thanks both! It sounds like LinkedIn is my next port of call. My profile now is okay but could definitely use some love - eg, I have each job on there but no description for them.

Thank you!!

This has not been my experience, I reckon I’m hearing something back from about 70% of applications I’ve put in recently. Definitely get onto LI. I’m getting leads and interest from there, plus when I have interview, I can see that the person who’s interviewing me has viewed my profile. I’d imaging they’d be a bit concerned as to why you are not on there.

Corporatepreggolady · 25/04/2023 16:02

Okay, thanks! I am on LI, just could give my profile a little more love with blurbs for each job I've done etc.

But I have a profile, a picture, three really good testimonial thingies from clients and ex colleagues.

My role is pretty specialist but I don't think too much so. Most big brands will have a few of us in-house, and agencies will have whole teams of us.

That's heartening @Piffpaffpoff. Maybe I've just had some bad luck so far 🙂
