Basically saw a mouse yesterday, it ran under the fridge. Pulled fridge out but the little shit had disappeared. Woke up this morning to some chewed flooring in the kitchen. Aibu to just move? 🤣

Get a mouse trap, and not one of the humane ones.

Yes, heading out at lunchtime to buy some. I have a 1 year old crawling around everywhere so it makes me feel sick to think of mice.

Right I've purchased the traps. I guess next step is making sure there's no holes anywhere for Mickley mouse to get through?

Anybody got any tips for getting rid quickly?!

Get a mouse trap, and not one of the humane ones.

Why would you want it to suffer.

Swallowdoubleandrunamile · 25/04/2023 12:33

Steel wool in any small holes should help.

Shoxfordian · 25/04/2023 12:35

A little mouse with clogs on?

Pennybubbly · 25/04/2023 12:36

Well I despair

DelurkingAJ · 25/04/2023 12:41

Have you got a friend with a proper mouser? One of our cats was available for loan in such situations and you’d have had a row of presents next morning (the current pair are hopeless and more likely to bring in another and the lose it).

Nordicrain · 25/04/2023 12:42

Once you see mice it means that there is a substantial infestation. I would put poison down. We live near woods and get them in in the winter and after months of humane traps and then pest control out, the only thing that keeps them away is poison.

Humane traps aren't as humane as you like to think. Mice will come back if you don't take them far enough away, and if you do they are likely to die quickly anyway due to shock/ not being ok in their new environment. The most humane thing is to kill them quickly and painlessly.

TokyoSushi · 25/04/2023 12:44

Going klip klippity klop on the stair!

Popetthetreehugger · 25/04/2023 12:47

Just there

Lonelycrab · 25/04/2023 12:50

Nuke the site from orbit, it’s the only way to be sure.

Failing that, snap traps baited with something chocolate-ey, place along the floor/wall corner as they tend to travel along the base of walls.

As a pp says, humane traps aren’t really that humane for the reasons stated. You have to take them miles away and they’ll probably not survive in an unfamiliar environment.

Popetthetreehugger · 25/04/2023 12:50

I second steel wool , really poked in to all gaps . And then industrial poison ☠️. If your DC has any tins or pouches , wash outside before use . Grim I know , but they truly get everywhere!

Yes this is my worry, once you see one that means there's loads.

OK I'll get some poison. Have you had any problems with them dying somewhere and smelling awful or are they too small really to be that bad?

Yes will do, I'm worried about where they've been since DD is just about to turn 1 and literally everything gets put in her mouth.

No, we've found the odd dead mouse under kitchen units, but because they are so small they don't smell much and they dry up really quickly. We had a load in the attic (which was their nest, and then would shoot down to the kitchen through the walls for food) and pest control put down poison traps for them. They are gone now but have never seen even one body or skeleton up there. The poison makes them thirsty apparently, so quite often they go looking for water which - if no water sources in the house - will be outside.

Whatt · 25/04/2023 13:46

Peanut butter will catch them quick.

HarrietHairbrush · 25/04/2023 13:52

snap traps didn’t work for me.
They were behind my fridge-! chewed it and the wiring
made me feel sick too.
poison is what got rid

Well I declare!!

TheNoodlesIncident · 25/04/2023 14:20

We had a dead mouse under a chest of drawers in an unused room. I only realised we had a dead rodent problem because of flies appearing in the middle of winter. It hadn't smelled at all, but ours was a gift from the cat rather than poisoned; I don't know if that makes a significant difference to the resulting odour but it's possible it might.

I'd rather use an efficient mouser than poison but if you can't obtain a cat, I'd use traps rather than poison because of the risk to other animals up the food chain (supposing that the mice can get back outside, which they will probably be able to if they can get in). My sister used to get mice occasionally, they found there was a hole high in the brickwork and the mice would climb the bricks and get into the cavity walls. It is grim 😫

Flamingogirl08 · 26/04/2023 15:47

Caught one in a trap, I know I'm being very optimistic to think that's it now 🤣.

Have traps laid and poison under kitchen cupboards as it looks like that's where they've been. Haven't seen loads of droppings though so I'm really hoping there's not too many.

Also the house has been bleached within an inch of its life!
