Some background....I left my job as a retail manager in the charity sector in March after my position became untenable due to my managers unethical actions towards myself and my co-worker. Basically, it was a matter of principle that I could not work with someone who was capable of stooping so low and then blatantly lying to my face and to their boss about it. I originally went into the charity sector after a long and successful professional career to 'make a difference' and for the personal benefits it affords me (doing something worthwhile, helping people and meeting other like minded 'nice' people). It certainly isn't for the money as it is the most poorly paid position I have held. My shop was very successful, always meeting targets, with a strong and positive community feel. I enjoyed working there immensely and certainly achieved my goal of feeling like I DID make a difference to the cause, which did wonders for my MH.
Anyway, my manager ruined all this for both me and my co-worker and when we raised an informal grievance as per company policy, they themself did an investigation into our allegations. However, their investigation involved investigating themself, which is a major pisstake as they (unsurprisingly) found themself to be squeaky clean, whiter than a Persil advert and guilty of nothing more than being 'misunderstood'. We then said that we would be taking the matter further and raising a formal grievance (as per procedure). Miraculously, the very next morning, an email dropped into our inbox from our 'bosses boss', basically saying that 'whilst we COULD raise a grievance it really wouldn't be worth our while as boss had already explained to bosses boss and it was really all a misunderstanding and boss understands that they need to be mindful of the way things can be misinterpreted differently by different people'. However, there was NO misinterpretation by us over what had happened.
Both co-worker and I handed our notices in on the same day. That is 100% of the paid staff in our shop, and NO ONE from the organisation thought to question why to the day we both left. Which, IMO is very poor as whatever had been said was only one side of the story (and was a complete load of bollocks anyway)!
Anyway....
I ran the Facebook page for the shop. I also have my own personal Facebook page. I have always kept the two completely separate. So...... the other day I received a Facebook 'friend request' on my personal Facebook account from my bosses bosses boss.... basically the highest person up in retail in the organisation..... next step CEO. I do not know this person and running the shop didn't require any interaction with them. This person IS, however, already a 'friend' on the shop Facebook account. They are not prolific on Facebook and rarely post on their own Facebook account, so AIBU to wonder what my (ex) bosses bosses boss is up to sending me a personal friend request and what they might be trying to achieve?
