If you had ‘brunch’ at 12:30pm…

Hot sandwich, and probably about ten crisps.

Would you be hungry for the dinner (pasta and garlic bread) that you had planned by 8pm?

Lighthearted, just want to see if there are more like me or DH!

YABU = I would be hungry and ready for pasta

YANBU = I wouldn’t want another meal in the evening

I want to vote for option c. Your husband has eaten something else in secret 😉

He has been eating brownies all afternoon so that’s probably why. Not complaining that I get a full garlic baguette to myself!

A WHOLE sandwich? Plus crisps?

Murmers about obesity crisis.....

Honestly that sounds like a normal lunch.

CindersAgain · 23/04/2023 20:10

I guess on the lunch/brunch question, breakfast has been skipped?
In which case I’d probably be hungry earlier than eight.

5128gap · 23/04/2023 20:10

Maybe he doesn't fancy the pasta so will encourage you to eat it all, then announce he's starving at 9 and have to order in a takeaway.

Iminthemoneylife · 23/04/2023 20:10

12.30 is lunch time. I would be hungry and before 8 as I’m used to eating on the schedule of small children. I think if I had a bread based lunch I would swap to something different to pasta and garlic bread for dinner.

orangeisalemon · 23/04/2023 20:06

Nope! I am hungry, especially now I can smell the pasta cooking but DH is full and is encouraging me to have a bigger portion and saving the rest as leftovers for his lunch tomorrow. He usually eats for England so I am confused. Haha

Maybe he’s brewing an illness like a cold or something? My appetite does go if I’m starting to get ill. That or he’s secretly snacked.

It still wasn’t brunch though.

why are you calling a standard lunch, brunch?

I’d also call it brunch as I get up late at weekends and traditional breakfast window has closed so I’d refer to it as brunch. It’s a technicality ! But I’d definitely want dinner around eight pm.

It’s not brunch though. You’ve skipped breakfast and are now having lunch. If you are eating breakfast at lunch time it makes sense to call it lunch I guess but wether or not you’ve eaten breakfast, if you have lunch at lunch time it’s lunch!

The incorrect usage of brunch has bothered me yes 😂

Emigratingimmigrant · 23/04/2023 20:13

There are days when one is simply not hingry. There are also days when one could eat a horse....
12:30 is lunch not brunch

NEmama · 23/04/2023 20:14

I'd be hungry about 5 or 6

Pickingmyselfup · 23/04/2023 20:14

Yes! This morning I didn't have breakfast so I had a bigger lunch around 12ish (3 egg omelette with cheese, ham and vegetables) I had a small snack around 4 and then my dinner at 6ish. Going to have some fruit and yoghurt in a minute and that's me done for the day. I would be climbing the walls if I hadn't eaten dinner by now!

Perhaps he was just having a non hungry day though, it happens to me once in a blue moon. He's a grown man, he will eat if he's hungry.

Augend23 · 23/04/2023 20:15

I can just about cope with calling lunch brunch if it involves the consumption of breakfast foods. But honestly if you're eating a sandwich after midday, it's lunch not brunch.

Brunch is definitely pre 12, to my mind.

(And yes I would want dinner - though I would usually arrange a brunch day to eat at e.g. 10:30/11am, and then an early tea between 5 and 6 ish - so only two meals that day). (And before anyone asks, I'm overweight and in no way, shape or form a competitive under eater!)

Luredbyapomegranate · 23/04/2023 20:16

Let me get this straight:

No breakfast

A sandwich for lunch

And you think it’s unreasonable to be hungry at dinner time??

I presume you don’t really think it’s unreasonable and this is some competitive underrating weirdness. But it is weird OP.

RaininSummer · 23/04/2023 20:18

Almost 8 hours later..hell yeah.

UndercoverCop · 23/04/2023 20:19

Two options, either he's made himself feel a bit sick eating brownies all afternoon, or he wants to skip dinner and eat more brownies

No, she doesn’t think it’s unreasonable to be hungry by dinner time. She thinks it’s odd that her DH isn’t hungry, it’s just poorly written. And he isn’t competitive undereating, he’s just been snacking on brownies all afternoon. So actually the only real issue here is OPs incorrect usage of ‘brunch’ when it was clearly lunch.

Seas164 · 23/04/2023 20:20

A sandwich and crisps eaten at lunch time is just lunch I think, and if you've had your lunch at lunch time, then you're ready for your dinner by 8.

I think that's how it generally works anyway...

Mephisneon · 23/04/2023 20:21

Of course.

TheSaturdayAfternoonnessOfIt · 23/04/2023 20:21

So normal lunch, then? Yes, I'd have dinner at the normal time. A sandwich and what sounds like the equivalent of a bag of crisps is hardly a huge, blow out meal that would leave you feeling stuffed for hours.

Slimjimtobe · 23/04/2023 20:22

This site has gone nuts -
eating disorderly actually

Stripedbag101 · 23/04/2023 20:22

I am confused by calling a sandwich at lunch time brunch?is that not just lunch?

pancake/ French toast/ fry at 11am is brunch surely?

Fatkittythinkitty · 23/04/2023 20:23

What a weird thread. He's not hungry because he's eaten brownies. That's all. Why would you even question the fact that you're hungry after a completely normal lunch?

Simonjt · 23/04/2023 20:23

If I had eaten at 12:30 I would be hungry much earlier than 8pm.

LlynTegid · 23/04/2023 20:25

I'd be ravenous!! Normally my main meal is at lunchtime anyway.

(Hate the term 'brunch')

Okunevo · 23/04/2023 20:26

Yes, if I have a normal lunch, before 2pm, I will eat dinner. If I eat after 2pm or have a Sunday lunch then I might want porridge or some cheese on toast or similar for dinner rather than a proper dinner.
