To have time off with laryngitis?

So, since the high tree pollen count on Wednesday I’ve had a problem with my throat. My voice is hoarse, my throat is very itchy and I can’t stop coughing which leads to me heaving. I looked online and it points to laryngitis. Talking to much and getting too hot seems to only exacerbate the problem (it makes my throat feel like it’s swelling and I can’t handle anything around or near my throat!). Thing is, I work in a school canteen so I’m always talking to someone. I was thinking about taking tomorrow off but would anyone take time off for laryngitis. I’ve not had time off since I had the norovirus last year (even when I had covid I had 2 days off then went back because they were desperate) so I’m not sure if it’s okay to take time off for laryngitis.

You can't self diagnose laryngitis.
If you're too sick to work you're too sick to work

Dr Google helped to diagnose me with laryngitis last week (I had every one of the symptoms at least!). I work in admin though so worked from home for a week rather than go in to the office. If I didn't have that option, I would definitely have phoned in sick. Same as you, I was having regular coughing fits and struggled to speak for a couple of days. It's still lingering now, 2 weeks later.

Whatever it is, I’m not feeling it. I used to get tonsilitis regularly and quite bad so I know it’s not that. I can’t even talk to my own children without nearly throwing up over a coughing fit but other than that I feel fine. I think me taking one day off won’t kill them but I do a lot of the work so we shall see!

I had a week off with laryngitis. I could only whisper and my job involves a lot of talking but also I felt very generally unwell - I just slept and had feverish dreams most of the time.
I think I returned to work too soon after that as the cough that came with it lasted 6 more weeks

I've been forced to by my work but I work in a call centre so can't do my job with no voice.

It looks like it is going around then. I didn’t feel too well last week, with a sore throat so maybe it was that that started it and not hayfever. Was there anything you used to stop the itchiness? I’ve used all sorts and nothings touching it?!
