I was wondering if anyone could guesstimate how many calories are in this huge roast?

The slices of beef are very thin, there’s 5 slices.

Any expert calorie counters on here??

Not many because it's laden with vegetables, the main sources will be the yorkies and the fat on the roast potatoes and cheese sauce on the cauliflower all of which appear to be minimal.

Diddelydi · 23/04/2023 17:40

I would guess about 800

APseudonymNeeded · 23/04/2023 17:43

Yeah that’s quite a hefty calorific dinner tbf.
The veg is nothing but that’s a lot of Roasties, cheese sauce is calorific &, depending on how the gravy is made, that could be too. Yorkies are cooked in hot oil so will be calorific too. 800 is quite conservative imo.

About 800

1200 I would say. The cheese changes things

Westfacing · 23/04/2023 17:48

There's at least 400 in the beef and gravy, by the looks of it.

Not many?

Not really. The toasties don't look like they've been shown any oil if I'm honest so that won't be as bad as we think, the cheese sauce will be either a packet mix or a mainly milk and flour with a sniff of cheese (Given today's prices) so again not much calories there. It's a healthy dinner. Don't fret the calories.

Westfacing · 23/04/2023 17:54

I'm not saying it's not healthy - but it's twice the size of say an M&S ready meal which would be at least 400.

No idea bit I use my net diary and enter items individually to count them up.

according to that 2 slices of carvery beef is 66cals (I chose that as thinly sliced)
93 cals for a cup of roast potatoes and 55 cals for a carvery portion of cauliflower cheese. Yorkshire pud 86 cals. Gravy 99 cals (but for a cup) Didn’t do the veg as minimal

Mycatisalwaysangry · 23/04/2023 17:56

Take out what you want to eat, weigh it, and check calories for roasted carrots, gravy etc separately. It won’t be super
precise but it will help. That’s at least 1300-1500 calories.

mynameiscalypso · 23/04/2023 17:56

If I was estimating calories for it, I'd go 1,000. They generally use more oil and butter at restaurants than you would at home and the vegetables - whole clearly good for you! - are, on the vegetable scale, at the higher end of the calories. None of that is a bad thing though and I hope it was delicious!

CraftyIrishMamma · 23/04/2023 17:57

According to the Nutracheck App an average Pub Carvery Roast Beef dinner is between 1253kcal and 1629kcal

APseudonymNeeded · 23/04/2023 17:59

The toasties don't look like they've been shown any oil if I'm honest

Not being brown doesn’t indicate how much oil has been used. I use hardly any and get golden roasties, DSis has them sat in a shallow bath of oil and they are that white when they come out of the oven.

The actual overall portion size is huge too.

93 cals for a cup of roast potatoes
Huge underestimation I think compared to weighing, plus the size of those spuds!

ChiChaNaYubi · 23/04/2023 18:00

Thanks everyone! I’m going to put it in at around 1200 (I shared some with my toddler). I ate it across two meals and it’s now gone so can’t weigh unfortunately!
