How many toys does your 1 year old have?

Recently visited a friend who has a baby the same age as me (just turned one) and was surprised at how many toys they have. A full playroom full of loads and loads of lovely toys. In comparison my poor dd has one basket full of broken toys and torn up books. She isn't overly interested in toys and prefers to open drawers and pull things out or crawl around the house wreaking havoc. She has teddies, shape sorters, stacking cups, board books and a few electronic things like a pretend phone. But having had my house taken over with plastic crap from my older two I decided things would be more minimal for her and I wouldn't get things just for the sake of it if she didn't play with them.

That said I do feel a bit mean now, like she should have more. How many toys do your one year olds have? And what do they play with most? Obviously as she gets older and engages more with toys she will have more.

Very similar to you by the sounds of it. Most of them are her older siblings old toys too.

DD is an only and had lots of toys but never really played with them. I regret the amount I spent to 'keep up with the Jones".

We are animals, we don't need brightly colored bits of plastic, we need an enriching environment so as long as your DC has that you are fine. My DD would ignore all her toys and sit behind the door playing with the springy thing that stops the door hitting the wall for hours whilst the contents of the Early Learning Centre sat in boxes around the room unplayed with.

My son has quite a lot but his was gifted a lot and lots have been passed on to him as well. We rotate them though so he doesn't get bored of them. We also pass them on when he's outgrown them

In my experience children play better with less toys, when there are too many it can overwhelm them. It’s good for them to develop their imagination. Also agree that at 1 year old they prefer to play with normal household stuff - pots, pans, tissues, whatever is around! Don’t worry about it.
