Charity using covid as a reason to restrict services

Have recently been helping a friend who is having a hard time both personally and financially. She has a dog who is a great help to her and really helps get her out the house however his vaccinations have lapsed so she's now panicking about that. I helped her look and found her eligible for PDSA help - great! Then only to discover that 'due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis' they are no longer offering preventive care such as vaccines. AIBU to think while the rest of the country and indeed much of the world now cracks on including in human health care, I work in a school where dc can come in even if they test positive for covid, that this is a poor excuse. Surely people donate to this charity thinking they are helping people and pets that are in this sort of situation?

Are you sure this information is up to date? It might be worth ringing your nearest clinic to check. The one near me is definitely doing vaccinations.

I assume so as it wasn't generic. I put in details including postcode then the message came up. It did say on the initial page that some were offering the service but after the input confirmed this one wasn't. This is a large city and indeed there are only three hospitals in the country (Scotland) so it's not great. I cold try calling but given the specific search/message I doubt it's incorrect

My understanding is that this is due to the shortfall in funds due to covid and also a shortage of vets. They are currently focusing on emergency / life saving treatment but hope to be able to offer preventative treatment and vaccinations again soon.

I know what you said about putting in the postcode but I would call you check that's correct.

Loads of places and websites still have this info. I don't know why but lots of people don't want to update, it seems.

Basically covid is used as a slight shorthand for the world has gone to shit. The country is
In my vet service for example

Early 2020- some vets had left in advance of the brexit vote, but in general there was resilience in the staffing to cover sickness

3 years later 2023- all but one of the vets has left, due to a mixture of brexit related things and subsequent burn out. A single vet who gets covid could leave it with zero cover. The lack of vets, and instability of locums means anything not urgent urgent isn't prioritised. There is increased problems in the supply chain for vaccines, and real difficulties getting hold of some of them. This is the first time my dog hasn't been up to date because no vet can source one of his

It's the same in all the local vets here re vet cover, and the same in my health care job. The team make up of qualified staff, and ratios is wildly different to Jan 2020

I suspect they mean the ongoing fall in charity funding/giving which starred with Covid and has just kept going.

Maybe, it might be better to explain that though as the message reads in a way it would mid pandemic during lockdowns
