Just what is wrong with his eye?

There's no AIBU I am blatantly posting for the traffic because I'm desperate. 2 weeks husband has had this eye problem. Optician said no infection just use moisturising drops. That was over a week ago. No improvement. Tried every day last week to get a doctors appt to be told nothing available every day. He says it stings and itches. Constantly waters. Crusty in a morning. Sometimes bloodshot sometimes not. Eyelid horribly swollen and so droopy. Help!

Just what is wrong with his eye?

Not saying this is what is wrong with your husband!
At my dh work, there is a horrible eye virus thing going about. 7 people have it currently. One of his colleagues went to an eye hospital with it and the waiting room was full of men with same symptoms and ophthalmologist said it going around atm.

sarahh96 · 22/04/2023 17:37

I had this last week. Go to an eye hospital if you can, failing that A&E. I had conjunctivitis and it your husbands does seem like that but definitely get checked out by a professional before you self medicate.
Does the area around the eyelid feel bruised?

sarahh96 · 22/04/2023 17:39

@Ilikealltings did the hospital say what it is that's going round? Any loss of vision?
Asking as I had the same thing and now have blurred vision in my eyes, they were fine before.

sarahh96 · 22/04/2023 17:41

This was mine

Blepharitis?

MaverickSnoopy · 22/04/2023 17:45

I'm sure it's Blepharitis. My DH and Mum both get it.

My DH was diagnosed through the eye emergency at the opticians - not all of them run them. He was told to use Optase eye lid cleansing gel. It's a lifelong condition but he only flares up every now and then, usually if his eye has been irritated by something. He takes eye wipes in the car in case it flares up when he's out, which he's had before.

tuvamoodyson · 22/04/2023 19:39

If you go onto the Moorfields eye hospital page, look up blepharitis, they tell you, very clearly how to clean it OP…they say you can use baby shampoo or quarter of teaspoon baking powder in half a cup of water to clean the eye. Lots of very useful info on there. Hope your husband gets relief soon.

So did DH and I - we were ill for pretty much all of March.

Definitely worth testing OP.

Yes same for us, literally all had it one by one and it started with the eye problem for everyone. There is quite a few articles on the how this is common with the new variant, it’s taken a few weeks for recovery for my family as well.

Hazey19 · 22/04/2023 20:45

My mum had similar recently and couldn’t get to the bottom of it. She was finally diagnosed with blepharitis. Hot compress on the eye regularly I think the treatment was. Good luck x

That looks horribly painful. He should definitely see a doctor asap - no messing about with eyes.

This. That's what the doctor is for, after all.

I have blepharitis. I use the Optase Tea Tree gel or have used Blephasol gel with a tiny drop of tea tree oil in it (but not too much). The tea tree really helps clear it up.

I use Optase gel too, wouldn't use baby shampoo. It's the only thing that keeps it under control. I'd see the pharmacist if it doesn't clear it up.

IDontWantToBeAPie · 23/04/2023 01:27

Have you checked under the eyelid? If there's a yellow/ white lump it could be a charizard

tuvamoodyson · 23/04/2023 06:19

Baby shampoo is fine as a stop gap method until proper treatment is given. As above, check Moorfields Eye Hospital page. We used to tell patients they could use it until they could get Eye lid wipes (specialist eye clinic) it really won’t do any damage!

Abacusporttaco · 23/04/2023 06:24

Blepharitis? The eye lid looks inflamed. Cleanse twice daily with Blephasol micelles water and use Hycosan Dual drops. Nothing else you can do but practice persistent good eye hygiene.

Abacusporttaco · 23/04/2023 06:26

And a warm eye mask for 15 minutes before cleaning.

Daffodilsandtuplips · 23/04/2023 06:37

That looks sore.
I’ve had this just a week ago, mine was a stye. I did an e consult with my gp and she sent me to the pharmacist who sold me Brolene eye drops. It cleared it up . Plus the use of a heated eye mask which brought the stye to a head and burst it.
I do eyelid cleaning as a routine due to eye surgery on both eyes.I use Blephasol cleaning lotion daily twice a day. Drops for dry eyes Hylo Forte. Plus drops for Glaucoma.
