How much money do you have for yourself?

For haircuts, clothes, coffees , meals out and drinks with friends etc.

My ex used to want £20 a day for his commute refreshments. Thinking back this was insane.

I have about £250 to myself after bills. It feels that it doesn't go very far these days.

My friend has nothing to herself at all. I think mamy are in this situation sadly. I have been there too.
If you aren't interested scroll on by I am just interested to know how much others have and if they feel they have noticed they have to watch their spending more?

I have to watch my spending more. This month has been hard with the Easter holidays. I get paid end of the month and have ran out of money this month. 🙈

RomaDiana · 22/04/2023 09:34

I couldn't put a figure on it as our outgoings vary month to month but I have definitley had to cut back over the past few months. Prices of EVERYTHING have rocketed so I have to be selective with how (and on what) I spend now.

Tisfortired · 22/04/2023 09:44

I’m on mat leave now and have £0 to myself unfortunately. Before mat leave after all my
bill contributions and anything DC needed I had maybe £150/£200 to myself which sounds a lot but isn’t really over the month. When I go back to work I’ll have £0 still due to paying for nursery!

tallcypowder · 22/04/2023 09:48

Guess my AIBU is then it £250 enough.

I know it's more than a lot of people but wven some new glasses/mugs stuff for house can be expensive. Thats even before the hairdressers.

Nothing. If a friend says 'let's meet for a coffee', my stomach sinks because even that's a problem now. Never mind, 'why don't we just order a quick pizza?' when with friends. It never used to be like this. I hate Brexit.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 22/04/2023 09:53

Not much. As a couple we budget £200 for eating out or days out but try not to spend it all, that would include takeaway. Most months spend about £150.

Haven’t had a haircut for years and on a low spend for clothes so not bought any since January.

I genuinely probably only spend about £50 a month on myself currently on top of eating out. Saving for holidays and to retire early.

matisses6fingers · 22/04/2023 09:54

I earn £2975 a month.

my half of the bills comes to roughly £500 (paid off the mortgage)

the rest I save and invest

CeeJay81 · 22/04/2023 09:55

Not much but I prioritise the children. So probably about £50 a month for myself. I'd rather my kids did after school activities and days out in the school holidays. It's definitely getting harder, we are on a low income though.

Beezknees · 22/04/2023 09:55

I have about £800 a month left after all bills and food, this is for myself and 15 year old DS. DS gets £20 a week pocket money. I buy clothes as and when needed. I don't go to the hairdresser, I dye my own hair.

TheFlis12345 · 22/04/2023 09:58

I have almost £2k left each month after mortgage and bills. I aim to save £1k of it and then the rest is spending money, though that includes food shopping and travel which cost about £400 per month

SwirlyShirly · 22/04/2023 10:05

Zero. It's soul destroying.

TidyDancer · 22/04/2023 10:12

Personally I have about £800 left after bills/essentials/commitments/etc but I try to save at least 75% of that. I realise how lucky I am to be in that position but it hasn't always been that way and I've struggled for money for more years than I haven't.

My savings aren't for anything in particular, this year will probably be for a holiday and just as a cushion in case anything in particular comes up.

slimdown · 22/04/2023 10:43

£300 for clothes and other personal spends, but anything food related like coffees just comes out our joint account. Neither of us take the piss with it (certainly not £20 a day!) my DH travels for work a lot and not all of it can be claimed back, so we tend to put him on a budget just so it doesn't take too much out of the family grocery budget!

Botw1 · 22/04/2023 10:47

I'm not sure.

Which says it all I suppose. I dint budget for it but have enough for days and nights out, weekends away etc

I get my hair done about twice a year and don't buy make up. Rarely buy clothes. But thats because I dont need to rather than can't afford it.
