Ferritin is 8. I have been taking ferrous sulphate for 2 months, two a day as well as a multi vitamin which contains some iron too.

My hair has stopped falling out as much but when I had my bloods done again it had only gone up to 16?! I have felt generally exhausted for years but think it was only picked up after giving birth. I really want to have some proper energy again and don’t know what level it needs to reach for that?

My irons levels used to be at 6 regularly. It got to the point that I’d go to the gp saying I’ve reached a particular symptom so I know it’s my iron levels.

If you can eat red meat do so with vitamin c to help absorption eg steak with lemon juice on the salad/veg. Similarly a real game changer was ditching caffeine. Caffeine blocks iron absorption. I highly recommend looking at iron sources and working out how to incorporate them in your diet daily.

I will say it wasn’t until I had severe post partum haemorrhage and pretty much a full new set of blood (100% match on blood type) that my iron problems went away and I’ve not had iron problems since.

Hi my teenage daughter has been on iron tablets for anemia for 6 months . Since this time her hair has started to fall out her latest blood test shows level 7.1 iron and her folate level has come up from 5 to 18. She is feeling so poorly. She doesn't have heavy periods but the doctor wants her to go on the pill to stop her periods to see if that will help. She doesn't want to go on the pill and I'm not over keen on the idea as think they should be looking at other ways has anyone got any advice we have her doctors appointment on Monday

I have just had an iron transfusion on the nhs because for about 10 years my ferritin has been about 5- 17 at it’s highest …my dermatologist said that for my hair to stop falling out we should be aiming for 100 …tablets do nothing for me and I have tried all three that the nhs prescribed I was going to pay privately for an infusion if you see my earlier post asking for recommendations but my gp finally decided it was a viable option for me so worth a try I let has only just been three months since and I need to go and get my bloods checked again to see how it has worked but I can say that I know longer get dizzy spells
