I’m at a loss and I don’t know what to do

DD is 3. She slept in a travel cot most of her life due to space issues. She now has her own bed which she seems to just hate

She will go off to sleep okay, but either wakes in the night and brings herself in my bed or ends up waking up for the day after around 9 hours of sleep. I do not know what to do. I’ve tried everything. She stays at my mums once a week and does bedshare there but I need her in her own bed and having a proper nights sleep. Any advice? I’m absolutely exhausted

I had one who would only sleep in the top of her buggy - hated her cot - too open and too light. Sleeping in a travel cot/ bed sharing will feel cosier and safer than sleeping alone. Is there any way to make her bed feel more snuggly. Maybe a canopy or a large teddy to share with so when she wakes she stays put.

If she slept fine in the travel cot before now just change it back Confused

Travel cots are not at all suitable or safe for older toddlers. Once they get to a certain size/weight/mobility they can tip them over and the mattresses are too thin.

(Unless you buy one specifically for an older age group, but how long do you carry on with a kid who won't sleep in a bed?)

9 hours sleep? That’s more than I get 😭

A bed tent to make it feel more enclosed?

Sandysandwich · 21/04/2023 07:45

Do you think it was the walls/security that she liked?
My son has used to like his bed right in the corner of his room with his chest of drawers in front so it feels more enclosed- he sometimes put a blanket over the top so it was "a cave". Whenever we stayed in rooms with more open sided beds he slept terribly until he was about 6 and grew out of it.

Maybe a net or canopy type thing would do the same for her- if she is used to the high sides? Or something like that white Ikea trundle bed that has 3 high sides?

How about a short mattress in a small tent? I didn’t like sleeping on a raised bed when I was little as I thought monsters might live under it, but was happy with a mattress on the floor for several years.

She's sleeping 9 hrs - I just slept when she did

Hankunamatata · 21/04/2023 08:16

Mine loves their travel cot. You can get one that's have a side that unzip so they can get in and out

justlurkinghere · 21/04/2023 08:18

What my mother did when I wandered in during the night was put her foot down and tell me sternly I had to stay in bed. When I was difficult about it she didn't even move and told me firmly to go back to bed. I only did it once. The option I took with my own kids was just to let them in.

@Stressedafff do you think 9 hours sleep isn't enough for her-is she tired during the day?
